8kg Bosch Washing Machine: Models, Size & Repair Guide

The 8 kg models sold in the UAE, the full Bosch specification, how to size your own load, 8 vs 9 kg, and what ownership and repairs cost in Dubai.

A technician in blue dungarees and a black cap kneels on a bathroom floor beside a front-loading washing machine, working inside the drum with an open blue toolbox of screwdrivers and pliers next to him.

8kg Bosch Washing Machine: Models, Size and Repair in Dubai

An 8 kg Bosch washing machine is a common choice for a family flat or villa, and Bosch's own buying guide puts it in the 3 to 4 person band. In the UAE, the 8 kg machines we found are the Serie 4 WAN28282GC (white) and WAN28283GC (silver inox), both freestanding front loaders spinning at 1400 rpm, and a built-in Serie 6, the WIW24561GC, at 1200 rpm.

This guide gives the full Bosch specification for the main 8 kg model, explains what "8 kg" does and does not mean, shows you how to size your own laundry with a bathroom scale, compares 8 kg with 7 and 9 kg, and covers what owning one costs in Dubai, including repairs. It is written by an independent Bosch repair company, not by Bosch and not by a shop. We do not sell washing machines.

At a glance

  • Bosch UAE's page for the WAN28282GC lists 8.0 kg, 1400 rpm, 55 dB washing, 73 dB spinning, 848 × 598 × 590 mm and a weight of 70.2 kg
  • Door open at 90 degrees, the machine needs 1,063 mm of depth, so measure the room as well as the niche
  • Cold-water connection only. Bosch's page lists no hot-and-cold intake
  • Not on this model, per Bosch's page: i-DOS dosing, Home Connect, a Down program and automatic stain removal
  • One UAE retailer listed the WAN28282GC at AED 1,499 (marked down from AED 2,049) on 2 November 2026, with a one-year warranty
  • Repairs in Dubai: typically AED 150 to 780 before 5% VAT, with a 90-day warranty on our repairs

Is an 8 kg Bosch the right size for your household?

For most homes of three or four people, yes. Bosch's buying guide (we read the Egypt site's version) says 6 or 7 kg suits one or two people, 8 or 9 kg suits homes of three to four, and 10 kg suits five or more, although it adds that a 9 kg machine also suffices for five. For bulky items such as duvets, it suggests looking at 8 to 10 kg.

Two other guides we read agree on the rough band and differ on the edges. Euronics calls 8 kg the most popular size, for three to four people. Betta, an Australian retailer, lists 8 kg in both its "medium" band (two to three people) and its "large" band (families of four or more) and does not settle the overlap. That overlap is real. Household size tells you the middle of the answer, and your own laundry habits decide the edges.

Four things push a household toward a larger or smaller drum.

  • How often you wash. A family that washes daily can run an 8 kg machine below capacity without a problem. A family that washes twice a week needs bigger loads.
  • Bulky bedding. Duvets and large throws take much of a drum, and the weight of the wet item matters as much as its size.
  • Towels and heavy fabric. They fill a drum by weight sooner than by volume.
  • Space and budget. The next section shows that the footprint barely changes between 8 and 9 kg, so these two usually decide.

If you are choosing between sizes, read the section on 8 kg against 9 kg and 7 kg further down before you decide. If you already own an 8 kg machine, the repair sections apply to you.

What we found

The table brings together Bosch's UAE product page and UAE retailer listings. Retailer data is labelled as such and was checked on 2 November 2026. Prices change with offers and stock, so check the retailer before relying on any of them.

Model Range Type Spin Source and price
WAN28282GC Serie 4 Freestanding, white 1400 rpm Bosch UAE product page. ACE: AED 1,499, marked down from AED 2,049
WAN28283GC Serie 4 Freestanding, silver inox 1400 rpm Carrefour: AED 1,548.99, marked down from AED 1,799, "only 1 left", installation not included
WIW24561GC Serie 6 Built-in 1200 rpm ACE: AED 3,824, marked down from AED 4,249, listed out of stock

A few notes on the table.

  • The two Serie 4 models are the same machine in two finishes. The second code is the silver inox version. Carrefour's page for the WAN28283GC is inconsistent on the finish: the title says silver inox and the description says white. If the colour matters, confirm it with the seller.
  • The Serie 6 is a built-in. It needs a niche and a furniture door, so it is a different purchase from the other two. See our Serie 6 guide for what the range adds.
  • Carrefour offered an extended warranty at AED 92.75 for one year or AED 185.45 for two years on the WAN28283GC. Read its terms before you buy it, because we have not seen them.

Why you will see other 8 kg codes online

Searches for "8kg Bosch washing machine" show codes beginning WAJ, WAT, WAN and others, plus Indian listings that mention "5 star" ratings and in-built heaters. Bosch sells different models in different markets, and a machine from another market can differ in voltage, plug, water connection, warranty and part codes. The 5-star label is Indian. The UAE retailer listings we saw use ESMA stars, discussed below.

If you own a machine with a code that is not in the table, send us the full E-Nr from the rating plate before a repair visit so that we can check parts. If you are buying, match the code on your invoice to the code on the listing.

A note on top loaders

Some searches ask for an "8 kg fully automatic top load" Bosch. Those listings come from India. Every Bosch 8 kg washer we found for the UAE is a front loader,. If a listing offers an 8 kg Bosch top loader, ask the seller for the full model code and look it up on Bosch's site before you pay.

The Bosch UAE specification, line by line

Bosch's UAE product page for the WAN28282GC is the most complete source we found. The table gives each figure and what it means when you install and live with the machine.

Item Bosch's figure What it means for you
Capacity 8.0 kg The maximum dry load. See the next section
Maximum spin 1400 rpm The spin speed can be varied. Lower speeds are available for delicates
Noise (washing / spinning) 55 / 73 dB(A) Bosch's figures for this model. Series pages give lower figures for the best Serie 4
Product size (H × W × D) 848 × 598 × 590 mm Plan a niche or gap at least this size, plus room for hoses
Depth with door open at 90° 1,063 mm You need more than a metre of floor in front of the door line, or a kitchen where the door does not hit a cabinet
Net weight 70.2 kg A two-person carry, and awkward on a tight staircase
Foot adjustment Up to 12 mm Floors that slope more than this need a different fix
Power cord 160 cm The socket must be within reach, not behind a cabinet
Door hinge Left The door opens to the left. Check this against your laundry layout
Installation Freestanding It stands alone or under a worktop with a gap
Hot and cold water intake No Connect the cold supply only
Energy class Not applicable on this page The page gives no efficiency class. We do not quote one
Water per cycle Not listed Neither does this page. See the retailer figure further down
Warranty Not listed Ask the seller for the warranty in writing

The weight matters more than people expect. At more than 70 kg, an 8 kg washer is hard to move on stairs, and the door is not a handle. The carry, the lift and the route to the room are part of the purchase.

The depth with the door open is the figure most people miss. A niche that fits the machine's 590 mm body can still leave the door hitting a cabinet, a wall or a bathroom door. Measure the swing arc as well as the width.

What "8 kg" means

The 8 kg is a maximum, and a particular kind of maximum. It describes the weight of dry cotton laundry that the machine is designed to wash in one go on a cotton program. It is not the weight of a wet load, and it does not apply equally to every program or fabric.

Three consequences follow.

  1. Programs have lower limits. Delicates, wool and easy-care programs usually take less than the maximum. Your manual lists the limit for each, so look it up before loading a wool jumper alongside a week of shirts.
  2. A full drum rinses and washes worse than a drum with some space. Euronics says that overstuffing a small drum "cleans poorly" and that a large drum run half-empty wastes energy. The second point matters less on a machine that detects the load, as this one does (see below).
  3. Heavy fabrics hit the limit by weight, not by volume. Towels, jeans and bedding can fill 8 kg while the drum still looks half empty.

Bosch's page for the WAN28282GC lists a loading sensor and a self-adjusting water level, both marked "Yes". That means the machine detects the load and adapts the water to it. That reduces the waste of a part load, but it does not make an overloaded drum clean any better.

Size your own load: the scale method

Guides tell you how many people an 8 kg machine suits, but none of the guides we read gave the weight of a typical load, and we are not going to invent one. Your own laundry is what matters, and you can measure it in ten minutes with a bathroom scale.

  1. Weigh the empty laundry basket. Stand on the scale holding it, then subtract your own weight. Or weigh yourself first, then yourself with the basket.
  2. Fill it with a normal week's laundry, sorted the way you wash it: whites, colours, towels, bedding.
  3. Weigh each pile separately and subtract the basket.
  4. Compare each pile with the machine's limit. A pile under 8 kg can go in one cotton load, though leave some room in the drum. Delicate programs take less, so check the manual.
  5. Count the piles per week. That is your number of loads.

An illustration of the arithmetic, using made-up figures to show the sums and not measurements:

Pile Weight (example) Fits one 8 kg load?
Colours 4.8 kg Yes, with room to spare
Towels 5.9 kg Yes
Bedding set 3.6 kg Yes
Everything combined 14.3 kg No, two loads

With your own numbers in place of the example, the table tells you whether an 8 kg machine suits you, and how often it runs. If your biggest single item is a duvet, weigh that on its own and check the manual's duvet guidance, because Bosch's page lists a "Duvet" option for this model and does not state the duvet size it accepts.

If your piles regularly come in above 8 kg, a 9 kg machine is worth a look. If they rarely exceed 5 kg, an 8 kg machine suits you and a smaller one may too.

8 kg against 9 kg

The gap between 8 and 9 kg is smaller than it looks. The table puts the two models we have full dimensions for side by side.

8 kg Serie 4 9 kg Serie 6
Bosch's household guidance 3 to 4 people 3 to 4 people, or 5

Our Serie 4 guide covers the 9 kg Serie 4 sold in the UAE and how to choose between 8 and 9 kg inside that range.

The most useful number in the table is the footprint. The 8 kg Serie 4 and the 9 kg Serie 6 differ by a couple of millimetres in depth, and the Serie 6 needs about 14 mm less door clearance, so a 9 kg machine fits the same space as an 8 kg one. That means the choice is not about whether it fits. It is about what the extra kilogram costs, and what comes with the range.

  • Stay with 8 kg if your piles weigh under 8 kg, you wash often and the price matters.
  • Move to 9 kg if you wash bulky bedding or large piles, and a larger drum saves you a load a week.
  • Think of the range as well as the size. The 9 kg Serie 6 we found has i-DOS dosing, and the 8 kg Serie 4 does not. Our Serie 6 guide explains the difference.

Features and programs on the 8 kg Serie 4

The list below covers the features; programs have their own table further down. It comes from Bosch's UAE page for the WAN28282GC and from ACE's listing for the same model.

Feature or program Source What it means
SpeedPerfect, Super 15 / Super 30 Bosch UAE, ACE Short options. ACE says SpeedPerfect cuts operation time by up to 65% on its Easy Care 40°C comparison

SilentPowerDrive Bosch UAE The motor name on this page

What it does not have

Bosch's page marks these as "No" for the WAN28282GC: i-DOS automatic dosing, Home Connect, a Down program, an outdoor or impregnation program, automatic stain removal, dirtiness recognition, a turbidity sensor, an interior light and a hot-and-cold intake. If a seller promises any of those on this model, ask them to show it on the specification page.

A conflict on the motor name

Bosch's series page gives the Serie 4 an EcoSilence Drive motor. Bosch's UAE page for the WAN28282GC lists "SilentPowerDrive". We cannot tell from these pages whether those are different motors or different names for similar ones, so check the name on your model's own page, and ask the seller about the motor warranty terms in writing.

Spin speed: 1200 or 1400 rpm?

The 8 kg Serie 4 spins up to 1400 rpm and the built-in Serie 6 up to 1200 rpm. Bosch's buying guide says a higher spin speed generally leaves clothes drier, and recommends a 1400 or 1600 rpm machine to reduce the energy used for drying and to speed up air drying.

Whether you line-dry or use a dryer, a drier load takes less time to dry. Two cautions apply.

  • A faster spin is harder on delicates. The page lists the spin as variable, so you can reduce it for wool or silk, and the manual shows the setting.
  • A faster spin is louder and shakes more if the machine is not level. Check the feet.

If you rely on a dryer, the higher spin of the Serie 4 is the more useful of the two.

Energy stars, kWh and litres

Two numbers appear on UAE listings: ESMA stars and annual figures.

  • ESMA stars. ACE lists the WAN28282GC with an ESMA rating of 2 and the built-in WIW24561GC with 3 stars. We did not find ESMA's own rating criteria for washing machines, so we treat the star count as a retailer figure and do not compare it with the A+++ class the WIW24561GC listing also shows.
  • Annual figures. ACE gives 243 kWh a year and 13,741 litres a year for the WAN28282GC. The listing does not say how many cycles those figures assume. Bosch's own UAE page gives no water figure and calls the energy class "not applicable".

Use these numbers to compare two machines on the same retailer's site, not as a prediction of your own bills. Your tariff, your water source and your program choices matter more than the label. The load detection on this model helps small loads use less water, and washing at a lower temperature uses less energy than a hot wash.

Installing an 8 kg Bosch correctly

Many early problems come from installation. Whether a shop delivers it or you do, check these before the first wash. Your manual gives the exact steps for your model.

  1. Remove the transport bolts at the back. A machine run with them still in will shake violently and can damage itself. Keep the bolts for the next move.
  2. Level the machine. Adjust the feet, which move up to 12 mm on the WAN28282GC, until it does not rock when you press down on the diagonal corners, and tighten the lock nuts.
  3. Connect the inlet hose to the cold supply, hand-tight, with no kinks. Bosch's page lists no hot-and-cold intake for this model, so a hot connection is not an option. Open the tap fully and look for drips after the first fill.
  4. Fit the drain hose without kinks, at the height the manual gives.
  5. Check the door. With the door open to 90 degrees, the machine needs 1,063 mm of depth. Make sure the door can open fully.
  6. Plug in within reach. The cord is 160 cm, so use a wall socket and not a long chain of extensions.
  7. Run a first empty wash and watch it fill, wash, drain and spin.

Carrefour's listing for the WAN28283GC says installation is not included, so ask each seller what delivery covers: hoses, connection, levelling and removal of the old machine are often separate.

Buying checklist: new, display model or second-hand

New machines are simple: the code on the box should match the code you intended to buy. A few checks apply to every purchase.

  • Match the E-Nr on the box, the invoice and the listing.
  • Keep the invoice. It is your proof of purchase and the start of any warranty claim. Photograph it today.
  • Ask what the warranty is. The two listings we checked showed one year, from the retailer or seller. Ask whether the motor warranty Bosch advertises applies to your model.
  • Ask about stock and delivery. Carrefour showed one unit left, and the built-in Serie 6 was listed out of stock on ACE.
  • Ask who installs it and what is included.
  • Inspect on delivery. Look for dents before the team leaves.

Buying second-hand? Our Serie 4 guide has a checklist of tests to run at the seller's home. Once you own it, our AED 99 inspection can check it and tell you what is wearing.

Loading habits that protect an 8 kg machine

Most avoidable damage comes from how the drum is loaded. The manual for your model is the authority, and these habits apply to any 8 kg front loader.

  • Mix large and small items. A single heavy item, such as one wet bath mat or a duvet alone, spins unevenly. The machine's balance control will try to cope, and the manual says what to do if it keeps stopping.
  • Check pockets. Coins, hair grips and tissues end up in the pump filter, and the filter is where most drain faults start.
  • Close zips and hooks. They can scratch the drum and tear the door seal.
  • Bag small items such as socks and bras, so they do not get trapped behind the seal.
  • Measure the detergent for the size of the load. The WAN28282GC has no automatic dosing, so over-dosing is a common mistake, and it leaves residue that makes a machine smell.
  • Do not wedge the door. Leave it ajar after the last wash of the day so the seal dries.
  • Stop at the manual's limit for each program. Wool and delicate programs take less than 8 kg.

Which program for which load

Bosch's UAE page lists the programs below for the WAN28282GC. It gives no weight limits, so look up the limit for each program in your manual before loading to the full 8 kg.

Program or option Listed on Bosch's page Suited to
Cottons Economy, standard cold to 90°C Towels, sheets and everyday cotton
Easy-care Standard cold to 60°C Synthetics and mixed fabrics
Delicates / silk Yes Fine fabrics
Wool and hand wash Yes Woollens
Sportswear Yes Activewear
Shirts / blouses Yes A smaller load of shirts
Allergy Plus Yes Bedding and sensitive skin
Duvet Option A duvet. The size limit is not stated
Super 15 / Super 30 Option Lightly soiled items in a hurry
Pre-wash, single rinse, cold wash Options Heavy soil, extra rinsing and cold-water washing

Do not treat the quick programs as a cheap way to clean heavily soiled loads. A short cycle saves time and does less to a stain.

Owning an 8 kg Bosch in Dubai: care and servicing

A few jobs keep an 8 kg Bosch out of the repair queue, and they take ten minutes a month.

  1. Clean the pump filter. Unplug the machine, put a tray under the service flap at the bottom front, and open the filter. Bosch's own steps for a drainage fault are to close the tap, switch off, unplug, let the water cool, empty the machine through the small drain hose, then clean the pump cover and housing. Our washing machine guide has the full steps.
  2. Wipe the door seal where hair and residue collect.
  3. Wash the detergent drawer, and run the Drum Clean program when the machine reminds you.
  4. Check the hoses and the level.

Know the signs that a repair is due:

  • Water takes longer to drain, or some stays in the drum after a cycle
  • A new smell that survives a hot cleaning cycle
  • A rumble, knock or squeal that grows with spin speed
  • Drips at the door, drawer or under the machine
  • A code on the display, or a cycle that stops without a reason
  • Clothes coming out wetter than before

Each is cheaper to fix when it first appears. For a check by a technician, the AED 99 inspection looks at all of these, runs a test cycle and gives a written quote for anything that is wearing. You decide what to approve.

What an 8 kg Bosch repair costs in Dubai

The 8 kg Serie 4 has the same fault list as other Bosch front loaders. The table shows typical prices, excluding 5% VAT. The AED 99 inspection is deducted from the repair if you go ahead.

Fault Usual cause Typical fix Time on site Price (AED)
Not draining Blocked pump filter, failed drain pump Clear the filter, replace the pump 45 to 90 min 150 – 320
Not filling Inlet screen, inlet valve Clean the screen, replace the valve 45 to 90 min 160 – 300
Not heating Scaled or failed element, temperature sensor Replace the element or sensor 60 to 120 min 260 – 480
Leaking Worn door seal, hose, pump housing Replace the seal, hose or housing 45 to 90 min 180 – 380
Not spinning Motor wiring, imbalance sensor, bearings Replace the failed part 60 to 120 min 220 – 520
Door won't open Lock actuator, blocked drain Release the door, replace the actuator 45 to 90 min 160 – 340
Noisy drum Worn bearings, shock absorbers Replace bearings or dampers 2 to 4 hours 380 – 780
Control module fault Failed electronics Repair or replace the module 60 to 150 min 320 – 750

The part and the access decide where in the range a quote falls. A drain pump costs far less than a control module or a set of bearings, and a built-in machine takes longer to pull out. Our washing machine repair guide explains each fault and its error codes, including E17, E18 and F21.

Repair or replace an 8 kg Bosch?

Use a real new-machine price as the reference. ACE listed the WAN28282GC at AED 1,499 on 2 November 2026. A workable rule is that a repair costing more than about half of a comparable new machine, or a machine past ten years old with two serious faults, is a case for replacing. Half of that price is about AED 750.

The repair prices in these examples come from our placeholder ranges, so check your own written quote.

  • Three-year-old machine, drain pump failed, quote AED 300. That is 20% of the new price. Repair it.
  • Six-year-old machine, control module fault, quote AED 650. That is 43% of the new price, close to the line. Repair it if the drum, bearings and seal are sound, and ask whether the module can be repaired and not replaced.
  • Ten-year-old machine, worn bearings and a failing door lock, quote AED 1,000. That is 67% of the new price, on an old machine with two faults. Replace it.

Two points tilt the decision. A new machine comes with a seller warranty, and the listings we saw showed one year, while our repairs carry 90 days on the repaired fault. And a repair keeps a machine you know in a space it already fits. We will tell you when a repair is not worth it, and if you decline, you owe only the inspection fee.

How to book, and the warranty on our repairs

You book online or by WhatsApp. We confirm a two-hour window, and the technician messages you on WhatsApp 30 minutes before arriving. On site, they diagnose the fault, show you the failed part where possible, and give you a written quote with the part number. Every repair carries a 90-day warranty on the parts fitted and the labour for the repaired fault. We list the part number on a VAT invoice. If your machine is still inside its warranty, contact the seller or Bosch first. Our service center page explains how to decide, and our customer care guide lists Bosch's own contact routes.

We repair Bosch washing machines across Dubai, with typical arrival times of 50 to 75 minutes after the technician sets off. Areas include Dubai Marina, JLT, Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, JVC, Dubai Hills, Mirdif and Al Barsha.

Frequently asked questions

Is an 8 kg Bosch washing machine big enough for a family?

Bosch's buying guide says 8 or 9 kg suits homes of three to four people, and 10 kg suits five or more, although a 9 kg machine also suffices for five. Weigh your own laundry with a bathroom scale to check.

Which 8 kg Bosch washing machines are sold in the UAE?

We found the Serie 4 WAN28282GC (white) and WAN28283GC (silver inox), both freestanding at 1400 rpm, and the built-in Serie 6 WIW24561GC at 1200 rpm. Check the E-Nr on any machine you buy.

What size is an 8 kg Bosch washing machine?

Bosch's UAE page gives the WAN28282GC as 848 × 598 × 590 mm and 70.2 kg, with 1,063 mm of depth when the door is open at 90 degrees.

Does the 8 kg Bosch have a hot water connection?

Bosch's page for the WAN28282GC lists no hot-and-cold intake, so connect it to the cold supply.

How many kilograms of clothes is that?

The 8 kg is a maximum dry cotton load. Delicate and wool programs take less, and heavy items such as towels reach the limit by weight before the drum looks full.

Does the 8 kg Serie 4 have Wi-Fi or automatic dosing?

No. Bosch's page marks both Home Connect and i-DOS as "No" for the WAN28282GC.

What is the difference between 8 kg and 9 kg Bosch washers?

The footprint is almost the same, so both fit the same space. The difference is capacity, price and the range: the 9 kg Serie 6 we found has i-DOS, and the 8 kg Serie 4 does not.

How much does an 8 kg Bosch repair cost in Dubai?

Most repairs fall between AED 150 and 780, excluding 5% VAT. A blocked filter is the cheapest, and bearings or a control module the most. The AED 99 inspection is deducted from the repair if you go ahead.

Where is the model number on an 8 kg Bosch?

On the rating plate, which is usually on the edge of the door opening or on the back. The model number is the E-Nr, for example WAN28282GC. Photograph the plate and send it with your booking.
