Bosch Dishwasher Door Spring and Latch Repair Dubai

Door, hinge, spring and latch on a Bosch dishwasher: what Bosch says when the door will not close, open or latch, what it leaves out about springs, and what the repair costs in Dubai.

Bosch Dishwasher Door Spring, Hinge and Latch Repair in Dubai

A dishwasher door can fail in five ways that look alike from the kitchen. It will not close. It will not open. It closes but the machine will not start. It drops open the moment you let go. Or it swings stiffly and grinds. Each has a different cause, and only some of them are a broken part.

This page sorts them. It sets out what Bosch's own pages in the UK, Singapore and the US say about the door, the latch, the lock and the hinges, and it points out something worth knowing before you order a part: none of those pages mentions a door spring at all. People searching for "Bosch dishwasher door spring replacement" are usually describing a door that falls open. Bosch's pages are silent on that cause, so what we say about springs is our own experience from repair visits, and we label it that way.

We repair Bosch appliances in Dubai. We are an independent company and not an authorised Bosch agent. Where this page says "Bosch says", it names the page and the country. Where it says "ours", it is our reading. If your dishwasher is inside Bosch's warranty, contact Bosch first. Our Bosch customer care guide lists the official channels, and our dishwasher repair page has the full price table for every fault.

At a glance

  • Bosch UK, Singapore and the US name the same four door causes: the child lock, a damaged latch, a faulty door lock (the latch does not reach the micro switch) and damaged hinges.
  • None of the Bosch pages we read mentions a door spring or cable. The "worn spring or cable" cause on our dishwasher page is our own experience, not Bosch's statement.
  • Bosch tells you not to replace the latch or hinges yourself. Bosch UK: "We do not recommend replacing the door latch yourself due to safety concerns." The US page says latch replacement is for a professional "for safety reasons".
  • Checks that belong to you: clear anything blocking the door, turn off the child lock, cut the power for at least five seconds, check the machine is level, and clean sticky seals.
  • Do not hold the door shut or bypass the latch. The latch tells the machine the door is shut, and running without it sprays water out of the front.
  • A door that will not hold, in Dubai: typically AED 180 to 340 before 5% VAT, in 45 to 90 minutes. A latch or switch repair sits in the AED 180 to 540 range under "won't start". Our repairs carry a 90-day warranty.

Which door fault do you have

Start with the symptom, because the cause follows from it. The table gives what Bosch's pages say, what we add (marked "ours") and the first check.

Symptom Bosch's pages Ours First check
Door will not close Bosch US: dishes pushing against the door, or something pressing the rear panel such as a hose holder, can stop it latching A rack not fully in its runners is the commonest cause on our visits Pull the racks out and push them fully home. Remove tall items
Door will not open Bosch UK and Singapore: the child lock, a faulty lock or faulty hinges. Bosch US puts it under AutoAir: check level, cabinet obstructions and screws touching the door If the panel is also dead, the child lock is the first suspect Turn off the child lock. Check the machine sits level
Door closes, machine will not start Bosch UK: the machine does not run unless the door is fully latched. A damaged latch stops it even when the door looks closed A short job when the latch or its switch is the cause Close the door firmly, then try again. Cut power for five seconds
Door drops open when released Not covered on any page we read A worn spring or cable in the hinge Do not prop the door. See the safety section below
Door swings stiffly or grinds Bosch UK, Singapore and US: inspect hinges for visible damage and check the door swings freely A bent or worn hinge, or a seal that has gone sticky Open the door fully and look. Do not force it

How to read it

The most useful split is between a door that will not open and a door that will not stay shut. They sound like opposites and they have different causes. A door that will not open is often a lock or a setting. A door that will not stay shut is usually a catch, a spring or a hinge. A door that closes and then shows no sign of life is a third problem. Ours: it is the latch or its switch more often than the control board, which is why we check the latch first.

What Bosch says: hinge, latch, lock and child lock

Bosch UK, Singapore and the US all have a page on dishwasher door problems. The UK and Singapore pages cover the same points. The US page adds AutoAir and a list of checks. We read all three on 2 November 2026, along with Bosch's UK "won't start" page. Bosch updates them, so check the page itself before you rely on a detail.

Cause Bosch UK and Singapore Bosch US
Child lock "Check if the child lock has been activated." If the door will not open and the panel does not respond, deactivate it "If activated, it can make the door and controls unresponsive." Deactivate it following the manual
Latch A damaged latch can stop the dishwasher starting its cycle, because the latch keeps the door closed and prevents leaks. UK: "We do not recommend replacing the door latch yourself due to safety concerns" "If it's broken, the dishwasher won't start, and you'll need a professional to replace it for safety reasons"
Door lock Check that the door closes correctly against the latch. The latch should engage the door's micro switch. If it does not, the door lock is likely faulty. Book an engineer "If the door doesn't shut correctly or the latch doesn't engage the micro switch, you might have a faulty door lock." A professional repairs it
Hinges Open the door fully and look for damage, then check that it swings freely. Singapore: hinges "can often be the reason" the door does not open or close properly. UK: do not replace hinges yourself "Check the hinges for any damage or if the door isn't moving freely." Damaged hinges need professional repair
Spring or cable Not mentioned Not mentioned
Contact UK: repair service. Singapore: a repair form and a hotline 1-800-944-2904, a US number that is not for Dubai

What the pages share

All three give the same order of thinking: check the child lock, then look at the latch and the lock, then the hinges, then call an engineer. All three put the latch and the hinges beyond the owner's reach. None gives a fitting step, a part name, a cost or a time.

Latch and lock are not the same word

Bosch's pages use both words and tie them together: the latch "should engage the door's micro switch", and if it does not, the door lock is likely faulty. The pages do not say where the switch sits or what it looks like. Our reading, which is ours: the latch is the mechanical part and the switch is the electrical one, and a fault in either gives the same symptom, a door that looks shut and a machine that behaves as if it is open.

The UK "won't start" page

Bosch UK's page on a dishwasher that has power but will not start lists four causes: a door that is not fully latched, the child lock, a defective latch, and a general malfunction that a reset may clear. For the child lock it says to hold the lock button for three to five seconds until you hear a beep or the symbol disappears, or to use the manual catch on models that have one. For a malfunction it says to disconnect the appliance for at least five seconds, by unplugging it or switching off the fuse, then reconnect. For a defective latch it says to book an engineer. Our dishwasher reset guide covers the child lock steps in more detail.

What the pages cover, and what they skip

Read closely, Bosch's door pages are mostly about a door that will not open. The UK page is titled "Why is my dishwasher door not opening?", and its causes are written for that question. A door that will not close, a door that will not latch, and a door that closes and then falls open are handled only by implication, through the latch and hinge checks. The US page gets closest to the closing problem, in its "won't start or stops mid-cycle" advice: make sure the door latches fully, check the latch for wear, and make sure nothing is pressing the door or the rear panel.

We have not used parts shops or forum threads here, because they describe other models. What the Bosch pages do give is a short, safe list of things to rule out. The rest needs someone to look at the door.

What Bosch does not say: the door spring

Searches for "Bosch dishwasher door spring replacement" and "door spring repair" suggest that owners think the spring is the part that fails. The three Bosch pages that discuss the door do not mention springs. Neither does Bosch's US self-repair page, which lists the latch, the lock and the hinges as professional jobs. We found no Bosch page that names a spring, a cable, a counterbalance or a door-weight adjustment.

What we can say

Our dishwasher page says that a door that drops fast when opened has a worn spring or cable in the hinge. That is our experience from repair visits. It is not a statement from Bosch, and we cannot point to a Bosch page that confirms how the door is balanced on any model. We also cannot tell you whether the spring is a separate replaceable part on your model, whether it sits inside the hinge or behind the front panel, or whether Bosch supplies it individually.

Bosch UAE's dishwasher parts page lists door hinges and seals among the parts it supplies. It does not name springs or latches in the text we read, though it also says the list is partial. Our spare parts guide covers how the E-Nr lookup works and what the page leaves out.

Why that matters to you

If you read an online guide that tells you to replace the spring with a kit, treat it as someone else's experience of a different model. Bosch's own advice, on the pages we read, is to leave the hinges to an engineer. A door that has fallen open under its own weight is a good reason to stop using the machine until it has been looked at, whatever the cause is.

How a technician separates the causes

The order below is ours and not Bosch's. It follows the same logic as the Bosch pages, adding what a visit allows.

  1. Look first. With the door open as far as it goes, the technician looks at the hinges, the seal line and the way the door sits against the tub. Bosch UK and Singapore give the same first check to owners.
  2. Move the door by hand. The door should travel smoothly through its range. A door that moves roughly points to a hinge. A door that moves freely but will not hold in any position points to what is meant to hold it, which is where the spring or cable comes in on our visits.
  3. Close it slowly. The catch should engage with a firm click and the door should stay shut when released. A catch that does not take is a latch problem or a door that sits out of line.
  4. Test the switch. Bosch's pages say the latch should engage the micro switch. A technician checks that with an instrument and does not rely on the machine's behaviour. This is the step that tells a latch fault from a control board fault.
  5. Only then look at the electronics. If the door, latch and switch all pass, the fault is elsewhere. Our control board guide covers that path.

The point of the sequence is that most of it costs nothing but time. The inspection fee covers it, and the written quote names the part found, so you know what you are approving.

Checks that belong to you

These are the checks Bosch's pages give for the door, in the order we would do them. None involves opening a panel or touching a part.

  1. Clear the door. Bosch US says dishes pushing against the door can stop it latching. Pull the racks out, push them fully home, and look at tall items, long handles and the spray arm.
  2. Look behind the machine. Bosch US says to make sure the rear panel is not pressed by something such as a hose holder. If the machine is built in and has been moved, this is worth a look.
  3. Turn off the child lock. Bosch UK says to hold the lock button for three to five seconds until a beep or the symbol disappears, or to press the manual catch on models that have one. Bosch UK says the way to get control back while the lock is on is to deactivate it, and we do not suggest a power reset as a way round it.
  4. Cut the power for at least five seconds. Bosch UK and the US both say so for a malfunction. Do this at the plug or the fuse, then reconnect and try again.
  5. Check the level. Bosch US, on a door that will not open under AutoAir, says to check the dishwasher is level and slightly tilted forward. It also says to clear cabinetry or countertop obstructions and to check for cabinet screws touching the door.
  6. Clean the seal if it is sticky. Bosch US says to clean sticky seals with a mild cleaner and apply a dab of lubricant. Our door seal guide covers the seal itself.
  7. Look at the hinges. Bosch UK says to open the door as far as it goes and inspect the hinges for visible damage. Look; do not adjust.

Mistakes that make a door fault worse

These come from what we see on visits, so they are ours.

  • Forcing a door that will not open. Bosch UK and the US both start with the child lock. Check it before you pull.
  • Propping the door shut. A strap, a weight or a wedge defeats the latch. Our dishwasher page warns against it.
  • Running the machine with the latch defeated. Bosch UK says the machine will not start unless the door is fully latched. Our dishwasher page says running without the latch sprays water out of the front.
  • Ordering a spring kit before the fault is known. Bosch's pages never mention a spring. A part bought for a different model may not fit yours, and the door may be dropping for another reason.
  • Adjusting a hinge by feel. Bosch UK and the US both say hinge work is not an owner job.
  • Ignoring a small leak at the door. Water at the front can be the seal, or it can be a door that no longer closes square. Our door seal guide separates the two.

If the checks fail

If the door still will not latch, or the machine still will not start with a door that looks shut, stop there. Bosch UK, Singapore and the US all send you to an engineer at this point. The AED 99 inspection is the way to find out which of the latch, the switch, the hinge or the spring is at fault.

A note on AutoAir

Bosch US puts "door won't open" under AutoAir and gives the level, cabinet and seal checks. The page we read does not explain the feature, and we do not know which models sold in Dubai have it. If your manual mentions AutoAir, read that section before you call.

Why Bosch says to leave the latch, lock and hinges alone

Bosch UK and the US use the word "safety" about the latch. Neither explains it. Here is our reasoning, which is ours and not Bosch's.

The latch keeps the door shut while the machine sprays water, and Bosch UK says it does so to prevent leaks. The micro switch is how the machine knows the door is shut. Our dishwasher page says running with the latch defeated sprays water out of the front. The work also sits next to mains wiring in a kitchen. Those are the reasons we give for leaving it to a technician, and they are ours.

The hinge and the front panel

Ours: the hinge carries the door and holds it in line with the seal, so a door that sits out of line can leak at the seal and stop the latch lining up. Our dishwasher page says hinge and spring work depends on how much of the front panel has to come off.

What we do not do

We do not hold a door shut with a weight, a strap or a wedge, and we do not run a machine with the latch bypassed. We tell you the same. If the door will not hold and you need to use the machine before the visit, do not. Wash by hand until the door has been looked at.

While you wait for the visit

If the door will not hold, will not latch or will not open, the safest plan is to leave the machine unused until it has been looked at. Wash by hand in the meantime.

  • Switch the machine off at the wall, if it behaves oddly or the door has dropped open.
  • Keep the door closed if it will stay shut, and do not use it as a shelf or a step. Ours: a door that has lost its balance can fall under a load.
  • Keep children away from a door that drops.
  • Take photographs and a short video while you wait. They are more useful to a technician than a description.
  • Do not run a test cycle to see whether the problem has cleared.

If water has reached the floor, dry it first and look at the base of the machine. Our dishwasher page covers leaks and the float that triggers a leak code.

What the repair involves, and the cost

The AED 99 inspection includes the visit, the diagnosis and a written quote. If you approve the repair, the AED 99 comes off the repair price. If you decline, it is all you pay.

Typical costs, excluding 5% VAT

Fault What we replace Time on site Price (AED)
Door will not hold, drops open Spring, cable or latch 45 to 90 min 180 – 340
Won't start, latch or switch at fault Latch or door switch 60 to 120 min 180 – 540
Hinge or spring work Hinge or spring, depending on front panel access 45 to 90 min 180 – 340

These are the ranges on our dishwasher page, which gives AED 180 to 340 for hinge and spring replacement depending on how much of the front panel has to come off. The quote names the part and the work.

What moves a quote

The part matters most. A latch is a small part, a hinge or a spring assembly can involve more of the front panel. Access matters, since an integrated machine behind a cabinet is slower to pull forward than a freestanding one. And stock: our dishwasher page says we carry latches for popular models, and that model-specific parts are ordered once the fault is confirmed.

A worked example

A Bosch dishwasher door drops open when released. The technician finds a worn spring assembly. The all-in price is AED 260, with the AED 99 inspection included. VAT at 5% adds AED 13, so you pay AED 273. If you decline the quote, you pay AED 99 plus AED 4.95 VAT, a total of AED 103.95. This is an illustration within our stated range, not a quote for your machine.

The latch and the control board

A latch fault can look like a control board fault, because the machine behaves as if it is dead or the door is open. Our control board guide explains how to separate them, and the short version is that the latch is checked first. Our dishwasher page also notes that on Bosch's list a flashing Clean light on a model without a display points to the door sensor circuit, and the first step is the reset. If it returns, the latch or its switch is the likely cause, and that is a short job.

The warranty

Every repair carries a 90-day warranty on the parts fitted and the labour for the repaired fault. If the same fault returns inside 90 days, we come back at no charge. The warranty ends if the appliance is misused, damaged by a power surge, or opened by someone else.

Parts and the E-Nr

Door parts are model-specific. Our dishwasher page says the series number tells you the feature level and not the parts inside, and that two machines with different model numbers can use different pumps, heaters and control modules. We apply the same caution to hinges, latches and springs: we do not assume one fits another.

What to give us

The E-Nr from the type plate, which on a dishwasher is on the edge of the door or the inner side panel when the door is open, according to our customer care guide. Bosch UAE says the E-Nr starts with three letters and ends with a "/" and two digits. Photograph it. If the door is already damaged, photograph the plate before you try to open or close it again.

What Bosch UAE lists

Bosch UAE's dishwasher parts page names door hinges and seals among its parts, then spray arms, drain filters, racks and baskets, and heat pumps, drain pumps, valves and hoses. It does not name a spring or a latch in the text we read. The page lists many additional parts, so absence from that text does not prove a part is not supplied. Our spare parts guide explains what that page does and does not say.

The part number

We do not describe our parts as original Bosch. The part number is on your quote and your invoice, so you can check it against Bosch's own lookup.

Built-in doors and access

On an integrated dishwasher a cabinet panel is fixed to the door. We found no Bosch page that says how a fitted panel affects the door's balance or the parts used. We therefore make no claim about it.

What we ask instead is practical. Tell us whether a cabinet panel is fitted to the door, and whether the machine is built in or freestanding. A built-in machine takes longer to pull out and refit. If the panel is heavy or has been changed since installation, say so, because the technician will want to look at that first.

Warranty, and what a door repair does to it

A door fault is one of the faults where the warranty question comes up first, because the latch and hinge are the parts Bosch says to leave to its engineers. Bosch UK says its repair service can arrange an engineer in and out of warranty. If your dishwasher is inside the manufacturer's warranty, start there, keep the invoice, and note the E-Nr and the date the fault began.

If you are outside the warranty, an independent repair is an ordinary choice. Whether a repair by us affects a manufacturer's warranty claim depends on the warranty's wording, which Bosch's door pages do not give. Our authorised versus independent guide explains how to ask. Our own repair carries a 90-day warranty on the part and the labour.

Questions to ask before you approve a quote

  1. Which part is faulty, and what is its number? The quote and invoice should name it.
  2. What did you test? A latch should be checked against its switch before it is replaced.
  3. Is the part in stock? If not, ask for the date.
  4. Does the repair include the front panel work? The cost can depend on it.
  5. What is the warranty on the part and on the labour?
  6. If you find a second fault, will you tell me before you continue?

Repair or replace

A door repair is usually one of the smaller dishwasher repairs, and it rarely decides whether the machine is worth keeping. Our dishwasher page says latches are among the routine, affordable repairs, and gives a rule: repair if the machine is under about ten years old and the cost is less than half of a comparable new one. Compare the written quote with the price of a new machine. We do not quote retailer prices here.

We will tell you when a repair is not worth it. If our advice is to buy new, you owe only the inspection fee.

What the sources leave open

  • Whether any Bosch dishwasher spring is a separately replaceable part. No page we read names one.
  • Where the micro switch sits and what it looks like.
  • Which models have AutoAir, and what it does.
  • How a fitted cabinet panel affects the door.
  • The cost and time of a door repair on Bosch's side. No page gives either.
  • Whether the Bosch UAE parts list includes latches and springs. The text we read names hinges and seals only.

What to tell us

Send the E-Nr from the type plate, a short video of the door being opened and closed, and a line on which symptom you have from the table above. Say whether the door ever dropped suddenly, whether the child lock was on when it started, and whether a cabinet panel is fitted. We confirm a time window and the price range before we set off.

What to film

  • The door opening and closing, from the side, so the hinge and the gap at the top are both in view.
  • The latch, with the door open, close up, and again as it closes.
  • The type plate, with the E-Nr readable.
  • Any water, and where it appears.
  • The display, if it shows a light or a code.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Bosch dishwasher door fall open?

Bosch's pages do not cover this. Our dishwasher page says a door that drops fast when opened has a worn spring or cable in the hinge. That is our experience, not a Bosch statement. Stop using the machine until it has been looked at.

Why won't my Bosch dishwasher door close?

Bosch US says dishes pushing against the door, or something pressing the rear panel, can stop it latching. Pull the racks out, push them fully home, and clear tall items. If the door still will not close, the hinges or latch may be at fault.

Why won't my Bosch dishwasher door open?

Bosch UK and Singapore name the child lock, a faulty lock and faulty hinges. Bosch US adds the level, cabinet obstructions and sticky seals under AutoAir. Turn off the child lock first.

The door closes but the dishwasher won't start. What is wrong?

Bosch UK says the machine does not start unless the door is fully latched, and a damaged latch can stop it even when the door looks closed. Close the door firmly and cut the power for five seconds. If it still will not start, book an inspection.

What does the micro switch do on a Bosch dishwasher door?

Bosch UK and Singapore say the latch should engage the door's micro switch. If it does not, the door lock is likely faulty. The pages do not say where the switch sits. A technician tests it with an instrument.

Can I replace the Bosch dishwasher door latch myself?

Bosch UK says it does not recommend replacing the latch yourself because of safety concerns, and Bosch US says latch replacement is for a professional. We agree.

Can I replace the door hinge or spring myself?

Bosch UK says it does not recommend replacing the hinges yourself, and Bosch US says damaged hinges need professional repair. The Bosch pages we read do not mention springs.

How do I turn off the child lock on my Bosch dishwasher?

Bosch UK says to find the lock button, usually marked with a padlock or key, and hold it for three to five seconds until you hear a beep or the symbol changes. Some models have a manual catch. Your manual shows which.

Is it safe to run the dishwasher with the door held shut?

No. Do not hold the door shut with a weight or bypass the latch. The latch tells the machine the door is shut, and running without it sprays water out of the front.

How much does a Bosch dishwasher door repair cost in Dubai?

A door that will not hold is typically AED 180 to 340 before 5% VAT, in 45 to 90 minutes. A latch or switch repair sits in the AED 180 to 540 range. The AED 99 inspection is credited to the repair.

Do you carry door parts?

Our dishwasher page says we carry latches for popular Bosch models. Model-specific parts are ordered once the fault is confirmed. Send the E-Nr and we check before the visit.

Is a dishwasher door fault covered by Bosch's warranty?

It depends on your warranty and its terms. Bosch's pages do not give those. If you are inside the warranty, contact Bosch first.

Is it worth repairing an older dishwasher with a door fault?

Usually, if the machine is under about ten years old and the repair costs less than half of a comparable new one. We tell you when it is not worth it.

Book a Bosch dishwasher door repair
