Bosch Serie 4 Dishwasher: Models, Features and Repair in Dubai
The Bosch Serie 4 is the second step up in Bosch's dishwasher range, between the entry-level Serie 2 and the Serie 6. Bosch's UAE website lists three Serie 4 models, all 60 cm wide: one fully integrated machine and two freestanding ones in brushed steel and brushed black steel. UAE retailers also sell a 13-place freestanding model, the SMS44DI01T, with four programs and Bosch's EcoSilence Drive motor.
This guide explains what the Serie 4 is, which models are sold in the UAE, what its named features do, how it compares with the other series, and what owning one costs in Dubai, including repairs. It is written by an independent Bosch repair company, not by Bosch and not by a shop. We do not sell dishwashers.
At a glance
- On Bosch's UAE listing: SMV4HMX65M (fully integrated), SMS4HMC25M (freestanding, brushed black steel) and SMS4HMI25M (freestanding, brushed steel). All are 60 cm wide

Bosch Serie 4 dishwasher: where it sits in the range
Bosch sorts its dishwashers into four series, and the number tells you the feature level. Bosch describes its own series table as "a general introduction" and tells buyers to verify that a model has the features they want. Use the table below to see the pattern, and the model's specification for the facts.
| Serie 2 | Serie 4 | Serie 6 | Serie 8 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lowest noise level Bosch lists | 46 dB | 40 dB | 40 dB | 40 dB |
| Drying | ExtraDry | EfficientDry, ExtraDry | PerfectDry on some models, EfficientDry | Zeolith drying, PerfectDry |
| Rack features | Cutlery rack or basket | Extra space in the top rack, ExtraClean Zone | Same as Serie 4 | Same as Serie 4 |
| Quick program | SpeedPerfect, up to 66% faster | SpeedPerfect, 1-hour program | Same | Same |
| AquaStop with Bosch warranty against water damage | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Anti-rust warranty on the inner tub | 10 years | 10 years | 10 years | 10 years |
| Energy rating Bosch lists | Up to A++ | Up to A+++ | Up to A+++ | Up to A+++ |
| Home Connect | Listed | Listed | Listed | Listed |
Two lines in this table are less definite than they look. Bosch lists Home Connect under every series, including the Serie 2, so it cannot be standard on every model, and we read it as "on selected models". The Serie 4 drying row names two systems without saying which model has which. The model's own specification is the final word on both.
The practical reading is that the Serie 4 gets you the quiet running, leak protection and adjustable top rack that the Serie 2 lacks, and stops short of the premium drying systems Bosch reserves for the Serie 6 and 8.
Serie 4 models in the UAE
What Bosch UAE lists
Bosch's UAE dishwasher listing shows three Serie 4 models. The listing gives the series, width and type but not place settings, programs or noise levels.
| Model | Width | Type | What the listing shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMV4HMX65M | 60 cm | Fully integrated (built in) | Hygiene Certification label |
| SMS4HMC25M | 60 cm | Freestanding | Brushed black steel, anti-fingerprint finish, award badge |
| SMS4HMI25M | 60 cm | Freestanding | Brushed steel, anti-fingerprint finish, award badge |
The SMS models are freestanding and the SMV model is fully integrated. We saw no 45 cm slimline Serie 4 on the part of the listing that loaded, but we did not see every result, so ask before assuming there is none.
What retailers list
UAE retailers also list the SMS44DI01T, a 60 cm freestanding model in silver inox. Carrefour UAE and ACE UAE agree on its main details:
| Detail | Retailer listing |
|---|---|
| Place settings | 13 |
| Programs | 4: Intensive, Normal, Eco and Quick |
| Water per cycle | 9.5 litres (ACE; the cycle is not stated) |
| Size (height × width × depth) | 84.5 × 60 × 60 cm (ACE) |
| Weight | 44.8 kg (ACE) |
| Motor | EcoSilence Drive |
| Racks | Rackmatic with three height levels and nine rack positions (ACE); the top basket adjusts by up to 5 cm even when loaded (Carrefour) |
| Other features | AntiFingerprint finish, ActiveWater, DosageAssist, Hygiene Plus option, electronic delay timer (24 hours on ACE), water softener, digital display |
| Protection | 24/7 AquaStop with overflow protection |
| Warranty | 10-year rust-through warranty (Carrefour) |
| Price | AED 2,499 (ACE). Carrefour showed no price |
| Stock | Out of stock on both pages |
These details come from retailers, not from Bosch, and the listings were out of stock, so check them against the manual and the rating plate of the machine you actually buy. Neither listing gave a noise level in dB, an energy class or a drying system.
Why other model codes appear in searches
Search results for the Serie 4 include codes such as SMS46II01G and SKS62E32EU, and a number of European codes. None of them appeared on Bosch's UAE listing. Bosch sells different models in different markets and years, and a machine from another market can differ in voltage, plug and part codes. If you own one of those, tell us the full E-Nr before a repair visit so that we can check parts. If you are buying, match the code on the invoice to the code Bosch lists for the UAE.
Serie 4 features explained
The features in this table come from Bosch's series table and from the retailer listings above. The right-hand column says what each means in practice, and what it means if something goes wrong.
| Feature | Where it comes from | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| EcoSilence Drive | Retailer listings | Bosch's name for the motor technology it uses across its appliances. Retailers describe it as giving low noise |
| Rackmatic top rack | Retailer listings | The top basket can be raised or lowered in several positions, which gives room for tall glasses above or tall pots below |
| ActiveWater | Retailer listing | Bosch's name for adjusting the water use to the load. The manual explains what it does on your model |
| EfficientDry or ExtraDry | Bosch's series table | The drying method. Which one your machine has depends on the model |
| SpeedPerfect and a 1-hour program | Bosch's series table | An option and a program that shorten the cycle, by up to 66% according to Bosch |
| ExtraClean Zone | Bosch's series table | A zone in the lower rack with stronger spray for heavily soiled items |
| AquaStop | Bosch's series table and retailers | Leak protection. Bosch gives a warranty against water damage. Retailers list overflow protection |
| Hygiene Plus | Carrefour | An option for an antibacterial wash. Check the manual for what it changes |
| DosageAssist | Carrefour | A detergent aid on the door. The manual explains how to use it |
| Water softener | ACE | A built-in softener, which usually means a salt compartment to fill |
| 10-year anti-rust warranty | Bosch's series table, Carrefour | A warranty on the inner tub against rust-through. Read the terms |
| Home Connect | Bosch's series table | App control, on selected models. Not confirmed for any specific Serie 4 here |
Several of these affect how you use the machine more than the rest.
Drying: EfficientDry and ExtraDry
Most Bosch dishwashers dry by condensation. The final rinse is hot, the dishes stay warm, steam condenses on the cooler tub walls and runs down. Plastics hold less heat and come out wetter. Bosch's table names EfficientDry and ExtraDry for the Serie 4, but the footnote that explains which models have which is unclear. We therefore do not claim to know how a given Serie 4 dries. The practical advice does not depend on it: fill the rinse aid compartment, load plastics on the top rack, and open the door after the cycle if the machine does not do it for you.
AquaStop and what E15 means
AquaStop is the leak protection. When water collects in the base, a float switches the machine off, and the display shows E15. Bosch's instruction for E15 is to turn off the water supply and contact support. Do not reset it and carry on, because the float has done its job and the water is still coming from somewhere. Bosch's warranty against water damage has terms of its own, so ask Bosch for them in writing. Our dishwasher repair guide explains how to find the source of a leak, and our E15 page has the code details.
Water softener and salt
A listing that mentions a water softener usually means the machine has a salt compartment. If it does, the compartment matters for how clean glasses come out, because the softener cannot work without salt. The setup section below covers how to set it.
Home Connect: do not assume
Bosch's series table shows Home Connect in the same row for all four series. Read as "on selected models", No Bosch UAE source we found confirms Home Connect on any Serie 4, and the retailer listings do not mention it. If app control matters to you, ask the seller to show it on the specific model's specification page before you pay.
Programs: which one to use
The retailer listing for the SMS44DI01T names four programs: Intensive, Normal, Eco and Quick. Other Serie 4 models may have more, so the manual for your machine is the authority. In general terms, these programs suit these loads.
| Program | Suited to | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Intensive | Heavily soiled pots, pans and baked-on food | The highest temperature and a long cycle. Avoid it for delicate glassware |
| Normal | A mixed everyday load | The sensible default for most dishes |
| Eco | Everyday loads when you are not in a hurry | A long cycle. Bosch's Eco program is normally the one its energy label is based on, but check the manual |
| Quick | A lightly soiled load, or a small one | Short cycles can leave drying weaker, and are not meant for baked-on food |
Two practical points follow.
First, high temperatures and long cycles are the conditions Bosch gives for glass corrosion, in its guidance on cloudy glasses. Bosch recommends a gentler, lower-temperature program for fragile glass and says to avoid the highest temperatures and longest cycles. If your machine has no dedicated glass program, check which program the manual suggests, and do not run Intensive on a load that includes good glasses.
Second, a quick program is no shortcut for a poorly loaded machine. If the spray arms are blocked by a tall pot, or the filter is clogged, every program cleans poorly. Our dishwasher guide covers the checks.
Serie 4 vs Serie 2, 6 and 8
Bosch's own series table gives a rough ordering, and the table above shows it. In choosing between series, these points are the ones that decide most purchases.
| If you want | Serie 2 | Serie 4 | Serie 6 | Serie 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The lowest listed noise | 46 dB | 40 dB | 40 dB | 40 dB |
| Adjustable top rack and the ExtraClean Zone | Not listed by Bosch | Listed | Listed | Listed |
| The best drying | ExtraDry | EfficientDry or ExtraDry | PerfectDry on some models | Zeolith drying and PerfectDry |
| The highest energy rating Bosch lists | A++ | A+++ | A+++ | A+++ |
| A quick program | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| App control | Selected models | Selected models | Selected models | Selected models |
Choose the Serie 4 if you want quiet running, a flexible rack and leak protection at a middle price, and can live with ordinary drying.
Look at the Serie 6 or 8 if dry glassware and plastics matter a great deal to you, since that is where Bosch puts its premium drying systems, PerfectDry and Zeolith.
Consider the Serie 2 only if noise is not a concern and the household is small. Bosch lists it at 46 dB, six decibels above the others, and its table does not list the adjustable top rack or ExtraClean Zone for it.
The dB figures in the table are the lowest Bosch lists for each series, so they describe the quietest model, not every model. Read the figure on the energy label of the machine you are buying.
Freestanding, integrated, black or steel: choosing a format
The first decision is how the machine fits your kitchen. On Bosch's UAE listing the Serie 4 comes in two formats.
- Freestanding (SMS models). A complete machine with its own front and top. It slides under a worktop or stands alone. The listed finishes are brushed steel and brushed black steel, both with an anti-fingerprint finish.
- Fully integrated (SMV model). The front is hidden behind a cabinet door, which you or your joiner fit. It looks like part of the kitchen, but the controls sit on the top edge of the door and are visible only when it is open. It is also harder to pull out for a repair.
Semi-integrated machines have a visible control panel above a furniture door, and slimline machines are 45 cm wide. Neither appeared on the part of Bosch's UAE listing that we could see, though other markets sell them. If you want one, ask Bosch or a seller to confirm the model and its availability here, and check its code against the format you need.
What to measure
- Height, width and depth. One listing gives the freestanding SMS44DI01T as 84.5 × 60 × 60 cm. Built-in machines have different heights and need a particular niche, so use the installation guide for the model.
- The door swing. The door opens downward and needs clear floor in front of it, plus room for the rack to slide out.
- The water supply and the drain. The machine needs a tap or isolating valve within reach of the inlet hose and a drain connection, often shared with the sink waste.
- The power socket. A socket within reach, not an extension lead.
- The route to the room. Measure the door and lift as well as the space.
Installation checks before the first cycle
Many early problems come from installation, not from the machine. The manual gives the exact steps for your model.
- Connect the inlet hose, hand-tight, check it for kinks and open the tap fully.
- Connect the drain hose without kinks, following the manual's guidance on position.
- Level the machine so that the door closes properly and the racks slide.
- Fill the salt compartment if there is one, add rinse aid, and set the water hardness.
- Run a first cycle empty and watch it fill, wash and drain. Check for drips at the hose connections and the door.
A leak at the first cycle is cheap to fix with the machine still pulled out, so check before you push it into the space.
Setting it up: salt, rinse aid and hardness
Cloudy glasses, a white film and wet plastics account for many dishwasher complaints, and they usually come from setup, not from a fault. The settings below matter for any Serie 4 with a water softener.
- Set the water hardness. Bosch tells owners to check the hardness with their water provider or with test strips and to set the machine's softener to match. A setting that is too low leaves limescale. One that is too high softens the water more than it needs to and risks corroding glass. The manual shows how to change the level on your model. We do not quote a figure for Dubai tap water, because we did not find a source we trust, so test your own tap.
- Fill the salt compartment if the machine has one. Use dishwasher salt only, never table salt. The softener stops working when the salt runs out.
- Use rinse aid in every wash. Bosch says it reduces surface tension so water runs off, prevents spots and neutralises detergent residue. An empty rinse aid compartment is a common reason for wet plastics.
- Descale now and then. Run a dishwasher descaler on an empty machine, following the pack.
A quick test tells you whether cloudiness is limescale or glass corrosion. Rub a glass with a cloth soaked in white vinegar. If the cloudiness comes off, it was limescale. If it stays, the glass is corroded, which is permanent. Our dishwasher guide has the full steps.
Silence Plus, Super Silence and noise
Searches for the Serie 4 often include "Silence Plus" and "Super Silence". They are labels Bosch uses on dishwashers, and the series tables we read do not define them. What the tables do give is the lowest noise level for each series: 40 dB for the Serie 4 and 46 dB for the Serie 2. Retailer listings say the EcoSilence Drive motor gives low noise but give no dB figure for the model we looked at.
To check how quiet a given machine is:
- Find the noise figure on the energy label or in the specification, and compare the same type of figure between machines.
- Remember that the figure is for one program. Intensive programs, drying phases and pump cycles are louder than the quietest cycle.
- Allow for the kitchen. An open-plan layout and hard surfaces make any machine seem louder.
A machine that becomes noticeably louder than it was has changed in some way. A rattle is usually the load or a loose spray arm, a grinding sound is usually debris in the pump, and a loud hum with no water movement means a jammed or failing pump. Do not keep running a dishwasher that grinds.
Loading a Serie 4 so it cleans and dries
Most "the dishwasher doesn't clean" complaints are loading problems. The manual's loading diagram for your model wins over this list, but these habits apply to any Bosch with an adjustable top rack.
- Face dirty surfaces toward the centre and the spray arms. Bowls and plates face inward and slightly down.
- Keep tall items out of the spray arm's path. A pan handle poking through the rack stops the arm turning. Spin each arm by hand before you close the door.
- Put pots and baking trays in the lower rack, and put the heaviest soil where the ExtraClean Zone is, if your model has one.
- Load plastics and light items on the top rack, and weigh down anything that can flip over and fill with water.
- Do not nest. Spoons stacked together wash as one surface. Mix cutlery heads up and heads down if the basket has no separators.
- Scrape, do not rinse. Remove bones and solids, but leave ordinary residue. Modern detergent needs something to work on, and a thorough pre-rinse mostly wastes water.
- Raise or lower the top rack for the load. On a Rackmatic-type rack, drop it for tall pots below and raise it for tall glasses above, then check the arm still clears.
Wooden items, cast iron and some aluminium and non-stick pans do not belong in a dishwasher. Check the maker's care label on pans and knives before you load them.
Five checks before you book a repair
Some faults are fixed in a few minutes without a tool. Try these first, and note what you see so the technician can use it.
- Is the water on and the door shut? A half-open isolating valve gives a slow or empty fill. A door that has not latched stops the cycle starting.
- Is the filter clear? Remove it and rinse it. Food in the filter causes slow draining, poor cleaning and smells.
- Is the drain hose kinked or the sink waste blocked? If the sink drains slowly too, the machine is not the problem.
- Is there water or a code showing? Write down the code, or photograph it. Do not reset a leak code and keep running the machine.
- Has the power tripped? Check the socket or isolator. A tripped breaker on a dishwasher can point to a wet fault, so do not keep resetting it.
If the fault is still there, book. If water is leaking, switch off at the isolator and close the tap first.
Owning a Serie 4 in Dubai: care and servicing
A Serie 4 needs very little, and most of it is ten minutes a month.
- Clean the filter. Remove the lower rack, take out the filter set in the base and rinse it under running water with a little mild soap and a soft brush. A clogged filter is a common cause of an E22 code.
- Check the spray arms. Lift them off, clear the nozzles with a toothpick and make sure they spin freely.
- Wipe the door seal and the tub edges where food collects.
- Top up the salt and rinse aid, and check the hardness setting.
- Check the hoses. Look at the inlet and drain hoses for kinks and the connections for drips.
- Run a hot cycle with a dishwasher cleaner or descaler on an empty machine.
Know the signs that a repair is due:
- Water left in the base after a cycle
- An E15, E22, E24 or E25 code, or four flashing lights
- A leak at the door, under the machine or at the hoses
- A grinding or humming noise
- Cold dishes at the end of the cycle, or cycles that run far longer than they did
- Glasses that stay cloudy after you have checked salt, rinse aid and hardness
Each of these is cheaper to fix when it first appears. For a check by a technician, the AED 99 inspection looks at all of these, runs a test cycle and gives a written quote for anything that is wearing. You decide what to approve.
What a Serie 4 repair costs in Dubai
A Serie 4 has the same fault list as other Bosch dishwashers. The table shows typical prices, excluding 5% VAT. The AED 99 inspection is deducted from the repair if you go ahead.
| Fault | Usual cause | Typical fix | Time on site | Price (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Not draining | Blocked filter or air gap, failed drain pump | Clear the blockage, replace the pump | 45 to 90 min | 160 – 340 |
| Not filling | Inlet screen, inlet valve, flow meter | Clean the screen, replace the valve or meter | 45 to 90 min | 170 – 320 |
| Not heating | Heating element, temperature sensor, heat-pump fault | Replace the element or sensor | 60 to 120 min | 300 – 480 |
| Leaking | Door seal, hose, pump housing | Replace the seal, hose or housing | 45 to 90 min | 180 – 420 |
| Not cleaning | Circulation pump, spray arm, blocked nozzles | Clean or replace the part | 60 to 90 min | 180 – 460 |
| Won't start | Door latch or switch, control module | Replace the latch, or repair or replace the module | 60 to 120 min | 180 – 540 |
| Control module fault | Failed electronics | Repair or replace the module | 60 to 150 min | 350 – 540 |
The part and the access decide where in the range a quote falls. A drain pump costs far less than a control module, and a fully integrated machine takes longer to pull out and refit. Our dishwasher repair guide explains each fault and its error codes, including E09, E15, E22, E24 and E25.
Repair or replace a Serie 4?
Use a real new-machine price as the reference. One UAE retailer listed the SMS44DI01T at AED 2,499, although the listing was out of stock. A workable rule is that a repair costing more than about half of a comparable new machine, or a machine past ten years old with two serious faults, is a case for replacing. Half of that price is about AED 1,250.
The repair prices in the examples are from our placeholder ranges, so check your own written quote.
- Three-year-old Serie 4, drain pump failed, quote AED 300. That is 12% of the new price. Repair it.
- Eight-year-old Serie 4, control module fault, quote AED 520. That is 21% of the new price. If the tub, racks and seals are sound, repair it. If the door seal is split and the racks are rusting, this is the first of several bills.
- Twelve-year-old Serie 4, failed heater and a leaking pump housing, combined quote AED 850. That is 34% of the new price, but the machine has two faults and is well past the age when more follow. Replace it.
Two points tilt the decision. A new machine comes with a manufacturer warranty, while our repairs carry 90 days on the repaired fault. And an integrated machine costs more to remove and replace, since the replacement has to match the niche and the door panel. We will tell you when a repair is not worth it, and if you decline, you owe only the inspection fee.
How to book, and the warranty on our repairs
You book online or by WhatsApp. We confirm a two-hour window, and the technician messages you on WhatsApp 30 minutes before arriving. On site, they diagnose the fault, show you the failed part where possible, and give you a written quote with the part number. Every repair carries a 90-day warranty on the parts fitted and the labour for the repaired fault. We list the part number on a VAT invoice. If your Serie 4 is still inside Bosch's warranty, contact Bosch first. Our service center page explains how to decide, and our customer care guide lists Bosch's own contact routes.
We repair Bosch dishwashers across Dubai, with typical arrival times of 50 to 75 minutes after the technician sets off. Areas include Dubai Marina, JLT, Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, JVC, Dubai Hills, Mirdif and Al Barsha.
Frequently asked questions
What does Bosch Serie 4 mean for a dishwasher?
Serie 4 is the second step in Bosch's four dishwasher ranges, between the Serie 2 and the Serie 6. Bosch's series table gives it a lowest noise level of 40 dB, leak protection with a warranty against water damage, and a 10-year anti-rust warranty on the inner tub.
Which Bosch Serie 4 dishwashers are sold in the UAE?
Bosch's UAE listing shows the SMV4HMX65M (fully integrated) and the SMS4HMC25M and SMS4HMI25M (freestanding, brushed black steel and brushed steel). Retailers also list the SMS44DI01T. Check the E-Nr on any machine you buy.
How many place settings does a Serie 4 hold?
The SMS44DI01T is listed with 13. Bosch's UAE listing does not give place settings for its three models, so check the specification of the model you want.
Does the Bosch Serie 4 dishwasher have Wi-Fi?
Bosch's series table lists Home Connect for every series, which most likely means selected models. We could not confirm it on a specific Serie 4 model, so ask the seller to show it on the model's specification page.
What are Silence Plus and Super Silence?
They are Bosch labels for quiet running that the series tables we read do not define. Look at the noise figure on the model's energy label instead.
Is the Serie 4 worth it over the Serie 2?
Bosch's table gives the Serie 4 a lower noise level (40 dB against 46 dB) and an adjustable top rack with an ExtraClean Zone, which the Serie 2 does not list. For a small household that does not mind noise, the Serie 2 may be enough.
Is it worth repairing a Bosch Serie 4 dishwasher?
Usually, if the machine is under about ten years old and the repair costs less than about half of a new equivalent. At the AED 2,499 retailer price, that threshold is about AED 1,250. Drain pumps, door seals, inlet valves and latches are routine repairs.
How much does a Serie 4 dishwasher repair cost in Dubai?
Most repairs fall between AED 160 and 540, excluding 5% VAT. A blocked filter or hose is the cheapest, and a control module or heating repair the most. The AED 99 inspection is deducted from the repair if you go ahead.
Where is the model number on a Serie 4 dishwasher?
On the rating plate, which is usually on the edge of the door or the inner side panel when you open it. The model number is the E-Nr, for example SMS44DI01T. Photograph the plate and send it with your booking.
