Bosch Cooker Hood Repair in Dubai

Ask Bosch UAE what to do about a faulty cooker hood and the answer is short: the "Repairing your cooker hood" page says you "should leave repairing your cooker hood to the experts at Bosch Customer Service". The companion page, "Problems with your cooker hood?", gives no causes and no steps. It links to a "Hood does not pull" page and lists a support number. If your hood has stopped pulling air, buzzes, or has lost its lights, that leaves you with nothing to check before you call.

This page fills that gap. It sets out what Bosch's own pages in the UK, Singapore, the US, Egypt and the UAE say about hood faults, which problems sit in the filters, the duct, the motor or the controls, what you can safely do yourself, and what a repair costs in Dubai. Many people here call a cooker hood a chimney, and Bosch's UK repair page lists "chimney" as one of the hood types it covers, so this page covers both names.

We repair Bosch appliances. We are an independent company, not the manufacturer and not an authorised Bosch agent. Where this page says "Bosch says", it names the country of the page. Where it says "ours", it is our own reading from repair visits, and Bosch has not said it. If your hood is still inside Bosch's warranty, contact Bosch first. Our independent service center page and our guide to authorised and independent repair explain how to decide.

At a glance

  • Inspection and written quote: AED 99, deducted from the repair if you go ahead
  • Typical repair range: AED 150 to 450, excluding 5% VAT
  • Warranty: 90 days on parts and labour for the repaired fault
  • Hours: every day, 7 am to 10 pm, by WhatsApp or online booking
  • Most common cause of weak suction on any hood: a grease filter that has not been cleaned, which costs nothing to fix

Bosch cooker hood repair in Dubai: which hoods we repair

We repair Bosch cooker hoods in homes across Dubai. Bosch's UK repair page names four types: wall-mounted, ceiling, chimney and worktop ventilation. Bosch UAE's hoods category adds built-in hoods, venting hobs (where the extraction sits in the hob itself) and a Series 8 downdraft hood that rises from the worktop. The Bosch UAE listing also names Series 2, 4, 6 and 8 hoods. The series number tells you the feature level, not the parts inside.

The detail that decides what we can do is the model code. Bosch Singapore says the E-Nr (model number) and the FD (production number) are on the rating plate, and that you need them to book a repair. The Bosch hood pages we read do not say where the plate sits on a hood. Bosch UK's repair page shows a washing machine in its "Where is the model number?" example, so do not rely on that diagram. Check your booklet, and if you cannot find the plate, send us a photo of the hood with the grease filters removed. Ours: many hoods carry the label on the inside of the body, which is visible once the filters are out. We will tell you if yours is elsewhere.

Bosch UAE's hoods category showed 12 of 22 results when we read it, with codes such as DWK63PJ61M, DWK66PJ60M, DWK97PJ60M, DWP94CC50M, DWB64BC51B, DIB97IM50M and a "Series 8 downdraft hood 80 cm" (DDW88MM60B). The page named no features for any of them: no extraction rate, noise level, filter type or control type, and nothing on recirculation versus extraction. We cannot tell you from Bosch's page which of these has a glass panel, a touch panel or a remote fan. The model code tells us that, which is why we ask for it before the visit.

Two types need a note. A venting hob, covered on our hob repair page, puts the extraction unit under the worktop, so a fan fault there is a worktop job and not a wall job. A downdraft hood rises from the worktop and retracts, which adds a mechanism that a plain wall-mounted hood does not have. Tell us which type you own when you book.

Ducted or recirculating: why it changes the diagnosis

Before you look at the hood itself, work out how it gets rid of the air. A hood either pushes the air outside through a duct (extraction), or pulls it through filters and returns it to the kitchen (recirculation). The two fail in different ways, and a wrong guess costs money.

Bosch US explains the difference in its carbon filter page. Carbon or charcoal filters reduce kitchen odours, and "they're used in ventilation systems that recirculate air in the kitchen instead of venting the air outside the home." Ours: if your hood has a charcoal filter fitted behind or above the grease filter, you almost certainly have a recirculating hood. If there is a round or rectangular pipe leaving the hood and going into the ceiling or the wall, the hood is ducted.

Bosch UK's fan page gives the two sides of the story. For ducted hoods, it says "long or poorly routed ducting can restrict airflow", and it advises keeping ducting "as short and straight as possible" using the diameter in the manual. It also says debris or blockages in the ducting may need "a professional technician". For recirculating hoods, it says the hood "depends on good room ventilation" and suggests opening windows or using an extra extractor fan if needed.

Bosch US has the shortest advice of all. Its only troubleshooting step for a hood that has stopped extracting is to check the air ducts, because "something is blocking the air flow in the ducts or that the ducts are damaged or disconnected."

What this means in practice, and this part is ours:

  • A ducted hood that suddenly pulls less may have a duct problem and not a hood problem. A pipe knocked loose above the ceiling, a flap that sticks shut, or a blockage will all give weak suction while the motor runs perfectly. Replacing the hood fixes none of those.
  • A recirculating hood that "smells" and pulls little often needs a new carbon filter and a clean grease filter, and nothing more.
  • A hood that is loud but not strong has an airflow problem as often as a motor problem. The motor labours when the air has nowhere to go.

We diagnose the hood and tell you where the fault sits. We do not clear shared ducts or open ceilings. If the fault is in a duct that serves several flats, the building's maintenance team is the right call, and we will tell you so at the visit without charging a repair fee for work we did not do.

Find your fault

Hood faults fall into five groups. Find the one that matches, read what Bosch says about it, do the safe checks, and stop at the point where the next step needs a panel off or a wire touched.

The hood does not start at all

Bosch UK's "cooker hood is not turning on" page lists four causes. The mains plug is not connected. The circuit breaker in the fuse box has tripped. There is a power cut, which you can confirm by checking whether the lights or other appliances work. Or the plug connection to the glass plate is not made correctly, in which case the page points you to the step-by-step fitting guide in the instruction manual.

It also gives one note that is easy to miss: "If the appliance does not start when it is switched on for the first time, wait for around 15 minutes." The page says software updates may need to run. That note applies to a hood on its first switch-on, and the page does not say it applies to a hood that has worked for years.

Do these checks first. See whether the hood has power at all, whether other appliances on the same circuit work, and whether the panel lights show anything. If the display is dark and the breaker is up, stop there. Ours: a hood with power at the socket and a dead panel usually has a fault in the control module or the supply to it, and that needs a technician.

The fan runs but suction is weak

Bosch UK's fan page gives seven causes. In order, they are blocked or dirty filters, incorrect installation, blocked or obstructed ducting, a low fan speed setting, inadequate room ventilation on a recirculating hood, a faulty fan or motor, and missed maintenance. Bosch Singapore gives three: "clogged or dirty filters, a blocked or damaged exhaust vent, or a faulty motor."

Both lists put filters first. So do we. Clean the grease filter before you do anything else, using the steps in the filters section below. Then raise the fan speed to match the cooking, because Bosch UK says a low setting "may not handle heavy fumes" when you are frying or boiling heavily. Then, if the hood is a recirculating one, check when the carbon filter was last changed.

If the hood still pulls weakly with clean filters and a high setting, the cause is the duct or the motor. Bosch's pages say a faulty motor needs a repair visit, and Bosch Singapore adds that "if you can't identify or resolve the issue, we advise against attempting repairs yourself." We agree. Do not open the housing.

Ours: when the motor is the cause, the usual fault on a hood is a start capacitor or the motor itself. A weak motor often sounds slow to build speed, or hums without reaching full speed. A capacitor is cheaper to replace than the motor, which is why we test before we quote.

The hood is loud, rattles or vibrates

Bosch UK's repair page lists "noises" among the faults it covers, and none of the Bosch pages we read explains the cause of a noisy hood or gives a fix. This section is ours.

We check noise in this order. First, a loose or badly seated filter or trim panel rattles at every speed and stops when you press it. Second, a fan wheel loaded with grease runs out of balance, so the noise rises with speed and may come with a slight shake. Third, a worn motor bearing gives a grinding or whining note that was not there before. Fourth, a duct that is loose or touching a ceiling surface can drum at certain speeds.

The first one you can test yourself: switch the hood on at a medium speed, press gently on the filters and the lower trim, and listen for the rattle to stop. If it does, refit the filter until it clicks. If the noise is a note and not a rattle, switch the hood off and book an inspection. A bearing that is allowed to run on can seize the motor.

The light does not work

Bosch UK's "cooker hood light is not working" page lists five causes: a burnt-out bulb, loose or faulty connections, a blown fuse, a faulty light switch or control panel, and a power supply problem. Its note on bulbs is the most useful: "For models equipped with LED lighting, replacement is typically handled by a professional technician." It also tells you to use the manual to work out "whether the light bulb in your specific model can be replaced by you" or needs a qualified technician.

Bosch Singapore says the most common issue "is a burnt out bulb" and that hood lights often use replaceable halogen bulbs, with the correct part number and method in the manual. That tells you the two kinds of light differ. A halogen bulb can be a homeowner's job if the manual says so. An LED module is not.

Ours: if only the light fails while the fan runs, the hood's motor and power are fine, which narrows the fault to the bulb, the LED module or the light switch circuit. We bring a likely LED module or bulb when the model code is known. We cannot say which one you need until we have the code, so please send it.

The controls or touch panel do not respond

Bosch UK's pages put control faults under two headings: a "faulty light switch or control panel" in the light page, and the glass plate plug connection in the "not turning on" page. Bosch UK's light page says that if the controls are unresponsive you should "book a repair from Bosch Customer Support." None of the pages we read describe a reset procedure or a child lock for hoods.

Try the plain checks. Switch the hood off at the wall for two minutes and switch it on again. Check that nothing is resting on a touch panel or sticking to a button. Wipe the panel dry, because grease and moisture cause false or missed touches on a glass or touch surface. If a hood with a glass front plate lost its controls just after a clean, check whether the plate has been disturbed. Bosch UK's page says the plug connection to the glass plate has to be made correctly.

If the panel still does not respond, the next step is a control module test, and that needs the housing open. Stop and book.

Symptom, likely cause and what we charge

Symptom Where the fault usually sits Safe check first Typical repair, AED (before VAT)
Does not start, no lights Power supply or control module Plug, breaker, other appliances 220 to 400 if the control board needs replacing
Fan runs, weak suction Grease filter, carbon filter, duct, then motor or capacitor Clean the grease filter, raise the speed 180 to 450 for a motor or capacitor job
Loud, rattles or hums Filter or trim, grease-loaded fan, worn motor bearing Press on filters and trim at medium speed 180 to 450, depending on the part
Light out, fan fine Bulb, LED module or light circuit Check the manual for bulb type 150 to 280
Controls dead, fan or light work Control module or the glass plate connection Switch off at the wall for two minutes 220 to 400
Weak suction, clean filters, ducted hood Duct blocked, damaged or disconnected Look for a visible loose pipe at the hood Duct work is not our job: building maintenance

These ranges come from our service pricing for cooker hoods (AED 150 to 450 overall) and are ranges, not a promise. The written quote you receive at the visit is the price.

What not to do yourself

Bosch Singapore advises against attempting hood repairs yourself, and the line is worth taking literally. Four things cause more damage than the original fault, and all four are ours:

  • Do not run a hood with the filters out to "see if it pulls better". The fan then draws grease straight onto the motor and wheel.
  • Do not wash a carbon filter to extend it. Bosch UK says it is designed for one-time use, and a wet one can ruin the fan.
  • Do not force a stuck glass front plate or touch panel. The plug connection behind it is the part Bosch UK warns about, and levering the plate can break it.
  • Do not replace an LED strip with a bulb or the reverse. LED modules are supplied as parts for the model, and a mismatched part can overheat or fail within days.

If a step needs a panel off, a wire touched or a ladder on a wet kitchen floor, stop and book.

Filters: the cheapest fix

A hood has up to two filters. The metal grease filter, a mesh panel just behind the lower edge, catches cooking grease. The carbon filter, only on recirculating hoods, catches odour. They are cleaned and replaced in different ways.

Cleaning a grease filter

Bosch UK's "How to clean cooker hood filters" page starts with the safety line: "Before cleaning, make sure the cooker hood is switched off and unplugged from the power supply." Do that first. The steps from Bosch UK, in order:

  1. Remove the filter. Some need a tab pressed or the handle used to pull them out, and the page says to "slide or lift the filter out of its compartment."
  2. Soak it in warm water with mild detergent. For stubborn grease, Bosch UK recommends a Bosch degreaser. Bosch US says to soak "in hot, soapy water for 10 minutes". Bosch UK says "approximately 10-15 minutes."
  3. Scrub gently with a soft brush or sponge, and clear any particles stuck in the mesh.
  4. Rinse under warm water, shake off the excess, and dry on a towel or with a microfibre cloth. Then let it air dry completely.
  5. Do not use a hairdryer or any direct heat to speed things up. Bosch UK warns "it may damage the filter."
  6. Refit it until it clicks or locks in place.

Bosch UK says "some Bosch grease filters are dishwasher safe" and that you should confirm it in the user manual first. Bosch US's page has no dishwasher advice at all. If your manual says the filter is dishwasher safe, put it in the bottom rack. If it does not say, hand wash it. Our dishwasher repair page explains how to keep a dishwasher's own filters clear when you add greasy hood filters to a load.

How often should you wash a grease filter? Neither Bosch UK nor Bosch US gives an interval. This is ours: wash it monthly if you fry or cook with a lot of oil most days, and every two to three months if you cook lightly. Check the filter. If you see grease beading on the underside or dripping, it is overdue. A grease filter that is left too long lets grease reach the fan and the motor, which then labours and wears.

Changing a carbon filter

A carbon filter cannot be washed. Bosch UK's cleaning page says recirculating filters "cannot be cleaned or washed, as they are designed for one-time use." They are replaced on a schedule, and the three Bosch pages that give a schedule disagree:

Bosch page Country How often to replace the carbon filter
"How often do you change carbon filter" United States "Every 3 to 4 months, depending on usage"
"Cooker hood extractor fan is not working" United Kingdom Every 3 to 6 months on recirculating hoods
"Carbon filter change" Egypt "Once or twice a year" is usually sufficient, depending on how much the hood is used

We have not tried to settle the gap, because Bosch has not. The sensible reading is that all three tie the interval to use. Ours: a household that cooks with heavy spices, grills or fries most days should lean toward the short end, and a household that cooks lightly can lean toward the long end. If the kitchen smells of last night's cooking an hour after you switch the hood off, the filter has had its time, whatever the calendar says.

Bosch US and Bosch Egypt say replacement filters are sold through the Bosch Accessories Store, and Bosch UK points you to its accessories and spare parts pages. Filters are model specific. Check your manual for the filter code before you order, and do not assume a filter that looks the same fits. When we supply a carbon filter as part of a repair, the part number is on the quote and invoice so you can reorder the same one.

Cleaning the stainless steel without damaging it

Grease on the hood body is a separate job from grease in the filter, and some cleaners damage the finish. Bosch US's page on cleaning a stainless steel hood gives clear rules:

  • Do not use chlorine-based cleaners or abrasive cloths and cleaners.
  • Wipe stainless steel in the direction of the grain, then dry it with a soft cloth.
  • Black stainless steel can be cleaned with mild soapy water and a soft cloth.
  • If you use a stainless steel conditioner, do not apply it to logos, control labels or black stainless steel. Remove any excess with a paper towel.

Ours: the controls are where cleaning goes wrong. A cloth that is too wet runs into a touch panel and can leave it unresponsive until it dries. Wring the cloth well, wipe the panel last, and switch the hood off at the wall before you clean anywhere near the controls.

What happens on a visit, and what it costs

A hood visit follows the same order as the checks above, and you do not pay for work that is not needed.

  1. We confirm the basics. The technician checks the power at the hood, the filters and the fan speed setting, which take a few minutes and often end the visit.
  2. We find where the airflow stops. With the filters out and the fan running, we check whether the motor reaches full speed and whether air leaves the hood. If the hood is ducted and the motor is healthy, the fault is in the duct, and we tell you that.
  3. We test the electrics. For a hood that is dead, noisy or hums, we test the supply, the start capacitor and the motor. For a light or control fault, we test the light circuit and the control module.
  4. We quote before we repair. You get a written price for the part and the labour. The part number is on the quote. You can decline.
  5. We repair and test. We fit the part, run the hood on each speed and check the light and the controls before we leave.

The AED 99 inspection covers the diagnosis and the written quote, and it is deducted from the repair if you go ahead.

What a Bosch cooker hood repair costs in Dubai

Fault Typical time Price range, AED (before 5% VAT)
Weak suction: capacitor or motor 45 to 90 min 180 to 450
Light out: bulb, LED module or driver 30 to 60 min 150 to 280
Controls dead: control module 45 to 75 min 220 to 400

Here is how a quote works. Say a hood runs slowly and the technician finds a failing capacitor. The all-in repair price is AED 340, and that figure already includes the AED 99 inspection. VAT at 5% is AED 17.00, so you pay AED 357.00. If you decline the repair after the diagnosis, you pay the inspection plus VAT: AED 99 plus AED 4.95, which is AED 103.95.

A hood repair is usually a single-visit job when we know the model code, because we bring the likely part. When the hood is a recent model with a glass panel or a particular LED module, the part may not be on the van, and we tell you at the diagnosis. A second visit to fit it is covered by the same quote.

Bosch UK's cooker hood repair page lists no prices, and neither does the Bosch UAE repair page. We have not found any Bosch price for a hood repair in the UAE, so our figures stand as our own.

Repair or replace?

A hood is cheaper to replace than most appliances, which makes the decision harder than it looks. We do not quote new-hood prices here, because they depend on the model and change often. Use these rules instead, which are ours:

Situation Our advice
Weak suction, filters not cleaned for months Clean the filters first. It is not a repair.
Weak suction on a ducted hood, healthy motor Do not replace the hood. Fix the duct.
Capacitor or light module on a hood under about eight years old Repair. The part is a small share of a new hood.
Control module on a premium hood with a glass front Usually repair. The new hood costs far more.
Motor seized or motor and control module both failed, on an old basic hood Compare the quote with a new hood.
The hood has been repaired twice already Ask for the second opinion before you pay a third time.

The ducted-hood row is the one that costs people money. A new hood pushed into the same blocked or crushed duct pulls just as weakly, and you will have paid for a hood and a repair. We say so at the inspection if the fault is in the duct, and we recommend the building's maintenance team or a duct specialist.

Warranty and Bosch contact details

We give a 90-day warranty on parts and labour for the repaired fault. It covers the fault we repaired, and it does not cover a different fault that appears later. Your written invoice shows the part number and the warranty period.

If your hood is under Bosch's own warranty, contact Bosch first. Bosch UAE's pages list two numbers: +971 600 522 553 for large appliances and BSH 048030400. Bosch UAE's repair page for hoods says "you should leave repairing your cooker hood to the experts at Bosch Customer Service." Our guide to Bosch customer care in the UAE lists every route, what each page covers and what Bosch's pages leave out.

An independent repair of a hood that is still under warranty may affect your cover, and we do not give legal advice on a specific warranty. Read your warranty terms, or ask Bosch before you book us.

Keeping a hood working

None of the Bosch pages we read gives a maintenance routine for a hood other than filter cleaning and the cleaning rules above. The routine below is ours:

  • Every month, or sooner if you fry often: remove and wash the grease filters, then dry them fully before refitting.
  • At the interval in your manual, or when the smell returns: replace the carbon filter on a recirculating hood.
  • Each time you cook with heat: switch the hood on before you start and leave it running for a few minutes after. It clears the steam that settles on cabinets.
  • After a deep clean: run the hood on each speed once and listen. Anything new, a rattle or a hum, is easier to trace the day it starts.
  • Twice a year: look at the visible part of the duct on a ducted hood. Check it is attached, not crushed, and not blocked at the outlet.

What to tell us when you book

Send these and the visit is shorter:

  • The model code, or a photo of the rating plate. If you cannot find it, a photo of the whole hood and one with the filters removed.
  • Whether the hood is ducted or has a charcoal filter.
  • What it does: no power, weak suction, noise, light or controls. A short video of a noisy hood helps a lot.
  • When you last cleaned the grease filter and, on a recirculating hood, last changed the carbon filter.
  • Whether the hood is wall-mounted, built in, ceiling, a chimney style or in the worktop, because it changes what we bring.
  • Any error or blinking light on the panel.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Bosch cooker hood not pulling air?

Bosch UK lists blocked filters, restricted or blocked ducting, a low fan speed, poor room ventilation on a recirculating hood, and a faulty fan or motor. Clean the grease filter first. If the hood is ducted and the fan runs, the fault may be in the duct.

Is "chimney" the same as a cooker hood?

Yes, many people use the words for the same appliance. Bosch UK's repair page lists chimney as one of the cooker hood types it covers, alongside wall-mounted, ceiling and worktop ventilation.

How often should I wash a Bosch grease filter?

Bosch UK and Bosch US give no interval. Ours is monthly if you fry often and every two to three months if you cook lightly. Wash it sooner if you see grease dripping.

Can I put a Bosch grease filter in the dishwasher?

Bosch UK says some Bosch grease filters are dishwasher safe and tells you to confirm in the user manual. If your manual does not say so, wash it by hand.

How often should a carbon filter be changed?

Bosch US says every 3 to 4 months. Bosch UK says every 3 to 6 months. Bosch Egypt says once or twice a year is usually sufficient. All three depend on how much you cook.

Why will my Bosch hood not turn on?

Check the plug, the breaker and whether other appliances have power. Bosch UK also lists the glass plate plug connection. On a first switch-on, Bosch UK says to wait around 15 minutes because software updates may run.

Can I change a Bosch hood light bulb myself?

Check your manual first. Bosch Singapore says hood lights often use replaceable halogen bulbs. Bosch UK says LED replacement is typically handled by a professional technician.

Why is my Bosch hood noisy?

No Bosch page we read covers it. Ours: a loose filter or panel, a grease-loaded fan, a worn motor bearing, or a loose duct. Press on the filters at medium speed first, and stop and book if it is a grinding note.

Will replacing my hood fix weak suction?

Not if the fault is in the duct. A new hood in a blocked duct pulls as weakly as the old one, so we check the airflow before we quote.

How much does a Bosch cooker hood repair cost in Dubai?

Typically AED 150 to 450 before 5% VAT: light faults AED 150 to 280, weak suction AED 180 to 450, control faults AED 220 to 400. The AED 99 inspection is credited to the repair.

Do you repair ducts?

We diagnose whether the fault is in the duct. We do not clear shared ducts or open ceilings. Building maintenance or a duct specialist is the right call, and we say so at the inspection.

Do you repair downdraft hoods and venting hobs?

Tell us the model code and the type. We check against the model before quoting, since a downdraft hood and a venting hob carry parts that a plain wall-mounted hood does not.
