Bosch Microwave Repair in Dubai

Search Bosch's support pages for a microwave that does not heat and you find very little. The New Zealand and South African pages say there are "numerous reasons" a microwave does not get properly hot, list none of them, and tell you to call Bosch. The US page gives no causes either. Only the Singapore page gives checks. If your Bosch microwave has stopped heating, stopped turning, or started making a noise you have not heard before, that leaves you guessing whether the fault is serious.

This page sets out what Bosch's own pages in the UAE, Singapore, the US, New Zealand and South Africa do say, which symptoms are normal, which are not, what you can safely check, and what we repair in Dubai and for how much. Where this page says "Bosch says", it names the country of the page. Where it says "ours", it is our own reading from the way microwaves are built and repaired, and Bosch has not said it.

We repair Bosch appliances. We are an independent company, not the manufacturer and not an authorised Bosch agent. If your microwave is still inside Bosch's warranty, contact Bosch first. Our independent service center page and our guide to authorised and independent repair explain how to decide.

At a glance

Bosch microwave repair in Dubai: which units we repair

We repair Bosch microwaves built into kitchen cabinets across Dubai. When we read Bosch UAE's built-in microwave category it showed 5 results, all of them visible, and its category for built-in ovens with a microwave showed 2. Together that is the whole Bosch UAE range we found:

Model code Name on the Bosch UAE page

The page showed no wattage, capacity or feature list for the five microwaves, so we cannot tell you from Bosch's page which has which. We found no freestanding Bosch microwave on the Bosch UAE pages. If you own one that was bought abroad or second hand, send us the model code before booking. We will tell you whether we can source parts.

Bosch Singapore says the E-Nr (model number) and the FD (production number) are on the rating plate, and that you need them when you book. The pages we read do not say where the plate sits on a microwave. Check your manual for where it sits on your model. If you cannot find it, send a photo of the whole front with the door open and we will tell you where to look.

Microwave only, with grill, or combination oven

The three kinds of Bosch unit in that table fail in different ways, and the type decides what we bring.

A microwave on its own has one heat source, the magnetron, which produces the microwaves. Bosch Singapore says the magnetron makes a Geiger-counter-style sound in use. The faults are about the microwave path, the turntable and the door.

A microwave with grill (the BEL554 and BEL7321 models) adds a grill element at the top of the cavity. Ours: if the microwave heats but the grill does not, or the reverse, the fault is in one of two separate circuits, and a repair on one will not fix the other. Tell us which function fails.

A compact oven with microwave function (the CMG7241B1M and CMG7361B1M) is a small oven that also contains a microwave generator. Our Serie 8 oven page lists the CMG7361B1M as having microwave power levels of 90, 180, 360 and 600 W, plus a boost setting, with a 900 W maximum, and cooking modes that include hot air, air fry and grill. Ours: a unit like that can lose the microwave and keep the oven, or the other way around. Run each mode and tell us which ones work. A combination also has the oven's fan and heating elements, so some of its faults are oven faults and are covered on our oven repair page.

Unit What it adds that can fail What to tell us
Microwave only Magnetron path, turntable, door switches Whether it spins, starts and heats a cup of water
Microwave with grill Grill element and its control Whether the grill alone works, and the microwave alone
Compact oven with microwave Oven fan, hot-air element, steam or air-fry modes Which modes work and which do not

Find your fault

Microwave faults fall into eight groups. Find the one that matches, read what Bosch says, do the safe checks, and stop where a step would need the casing off.

The microwave runs but does not heat

This is the most common call, and it is the one where Bosch's pages say least. Bosch New Zealand says a microwave can fail to heat "properly" for "numerous reasons" and recommends calling Bosch Home Appliances Service. Bosch South Africa says the same. Bosch US says to contact Customer Support for troubleshooting. None of the three lists a cause.

Bosch Singapore does. It says freezing degree, food size and weight affect cooking time, and that oversized cookware or heavy items "may hinder rotation, leading to uneven heating." Its checks are to confirm the glass plate spins freely and sits level, to clean debris from the plate and the rotation ring and put them back dry, and to test by reheating a cup of water. If the fault continues, Singapore suggests booking a repair with a Bosch engineer.

Do exactly that. Put a cup of water in the middle of the plate and run it for one minute at full power. If the water is clearly warm, the microwave works and the problem was the load: frozen food, a heavy dish, or a plate that was not seated. If the water stays cold, the display lights and the light and fan run but nothing heats, the fault is in the heating path.

Ours: that path has a short list of parts. The magnetron produces the microwaves. A high-voltage diode and capacitor feed it. A thermal fuse protects it. A failed diode or capacitor is a cheaper repair than a failed magnetron, which is why we test before we quote, and not guess. We do not ask you to test any of them, because the capacitor can hold a dangerous charge when the unit is unplugged. We cover why in the safety section.

The plate does not turn

Bosch US's "not rotating" page gives one cause: "food debris or objects blocking" the turntable's movement. Its steps are to check the turntable and the area beneath it, clear anything you find, test again, and call Bosch if nothing was blocking it. Singapore adds oversized cookware, heavy items and debris on the plate and rotation ring, and says "we advise against attempting repairs yourself" if the issue continues.

The safe checks: lift out the glass plate, then the ring or roller support under it. Wipe both and the floor of the cavity. Look for a spilled-food crust where the ring runs. Put the ring and plate back dry, with the plate seated on the hub in the middle. Run an empty minute with a cup of water on it and watch the plate.

Ours: if the plate and ring are clean, seated and still do not turn, the likely fault is the small motor under the floor of the cavity, or the coupler that connects the motor to the plate. The motor is a short repair on most units. A plate that turns on one cycle and not another, or turns slowly, points to a motor that is failing and not a blockage. We bring the part when we know the model code.

A cracked plate is a separate matter. Bosch gives no plate part number on the pages we read. The plate is model specific, so send the model code and we will quote the right one, with its part number on the invoice.

The microwave will not start or does not respond

Bosch Singapore's "microwave not working" page lists three causes: an active control lock, improper door closure, and a control panel problem. If it stops abruptly during a cycle, a wrong setting may have been selected. Its steps are to consult the manual, reset the control panel, and unplug the unit or switch off its circuit breaker for 2 to 3 minutes to clear communication issues. If that does not work, it says "we advise against attempting repairs yourself."

Work through those in order. Check the control lock symbol on the display and release it as the manual says. Open the door fully and close it firmly, and see whether the display reacts. Then switch the breaker off for three minutes and back on. For a built-in unit, the breaker is the safe isolation, because the plug is usually behind the cabinet.

Ours: a microwave that is on, shows a display, accepts a time and refuses to start usually has a door switch that is not registering the door as closed. The unit then behaves as if the door is open, which is a safety design and not a defect in itself. Replacing a door switch is a routine repair, but the door and latch have to be inspected at the same time, because a worn latch is what stops the switch from being pressed.

The door will not close, latch or release

Bosch's pages that we read cover a door only for ovens. Bosch New Zealand's page on an oven door that will not close says the seals or hinges may be dirty or have something lodged in them, and suggests cleaning with soapy water and a sponge. It says it covers oven doors and does not say it applies to microwaves, so treat it as a clue and not as Bosch's microwave advice.

Our reading: a microwave door has a latch, a set of door switches and a seal system that keeps the microwaves in the cavity. Dirt on the door frame can stop it closing fully. A bent or loose hinge, or a broken latch hook, cannot be cleaned away. A door that pops open, a handle that has loosened or broken, or a door that is hard to open after cooking all point to the latch or handle mechanism.

The safe check is to clean the door frame and the seal surface with a damp cloth and soapy water, with the unit isolated at the breaker, and close the door slowly to see where it catches. If the door is bent, cracked, loose on its hinge or does not close flush, stop using the microwave. We say more about that in the next sections. A broken handle is a door-part repair, and we quote it from the model code.

The microwave is noisy

Bosch UAE's "microwave making noise" page says a Geiger-counter-like sound comes from the magnetron, which produces the microwaves, and that "the sound is normal and there's no reason to be alarmed." Bosch Singapore says the same. Both pages add one more case: a loud or odd noise while the microwave is in standby may mean something is wrong with the fan run-on. Their step is to check whether the noise stops after a while, and if it does not, to contact customer service. Bosch UAE lists BSH 048030400 for that.

This is the one place where we would send you away without a visit. A ticking, clicking or crackling sound during a heating cycle is Bosch's described magnetron sound. A fan that keeps running after the cycle and then stops is a normal cooling run-on. Pay for a visit only when the noise is new and different, and when it stays after the unit has been switched off for several minutes.

Ours: noises that Bosch does not cover are a hum or buzz that changes pitch (often a loose panel or a failing fan motor), a grinding sound from under the cavity floor (the turntable motor or its coupler), and a loud bang or arcing crackle. The last one belongs in the sparking section below, not here.

A burnt smell or smoke

Bosch UAE's "microwave smells burnt" page says to find out where the smell is coming from, clean the microwave thoroughly with soapy water, and repeat if the burnt smell persists. If that does not resolve it, it says to contact customer service. Bosch Singapore adds that for stubborn residue you should use the approved degreaser, and that you should "never use oven cleaner."

Our cleaning guide covers the Bosch cleaning products and steps: how to clean a Bosch oven and microwave. Ours, and this is a line Bosch's pages do not draw: a smell of old food after a spill is a cleaning job, but a smell of burning plastic, a smell of burning from an empty cavity, or any visible smoke is not. Switch the microwave off, isolate it at the breaker, leave the door closed to smother any flame, and call. Do not run it again to see if the smell has gone.

Sparking, crackling or scorch marks

None of the Bosch pages we read covers sparking. The topic lists on Bosch's US and Egypt microwave repair pages include "Microwave waveguide cover burned". We could not read that page, so we cannot say what Bosch says about it. Bosch Singapore's FAQ on what you can put in a microwave says to avoid metal dishes and aluminium foil, which can cause sparks, and to avoid melamine dishes, which may melt and deform. It also says not to heat eggs in the shell, cherry stone pillows, or to dehydrate food in a microwave.

If the sparks stopped when you removed a metal item, the microwave is likely fine. Wipe the cavity and carry on, but look at the cavity walls for scorch marks first. If it sparks with only a microwave-safe dish in it, or sparks with the cavity empty, stop.

Ours: inside the cavity wall there is normally a small cover, often a thin sheet of mica, that shields the opening where the microwaves enter. Grease and food spatter on it can scorch and then arc. A scorched cover is a small, cheap part, but running the microwave with it burned can damage the much more expensive magnetron. Arcing in an empty cavity can also point to damage to the cavity wall itself. We inspect the cover and the walls on the visit, and we will tell you if the fault is the cover or the cavity. If the cavity itself is damaged, replacement is often the sensible answer.

The display or controls are wrong

Bosch UAE has no microwave error code page that we found. Bosch's US page for ovens and microwaves lists only a few categories, and its general instruction for an error is to note the code, cut power at the fuse box and call Bosch support. Our oven page sets that out. For a microwave, we do not publish a code table, because no Bosch page we read gives one and a code list copied from a third-party site could be wrong for your model.

The safe checks: release the control lock, dry the panel if the unit has just been cleaned, and isolate the unit at the breaker for three minutes. Photograph the display with the code showing if it returns. Ours: a panel that responds to some touches and not others usually has moisture or grease on the touch surface, and a panel that is blank with a powered light usually needs the control board checked. Both need the front opened.

Which symptom costs what

Symptom Where the fault usually sits Safe check first Typical repair, AED (before VAT)
Runs, but water stays cold High-voltage diode or capacitor, magnetron, thermal fuse Water test, plate seated 220 to 420
Plate does not turn Turntable motor or coupler Clean the ring and floor 140 to 220
Will not start, display on Door switch or latch Control lock, close door firmly, breaker reset 160 to 300
Door will not close or release Latch, hinge or handle Clean the door frame 160 to 300
Loud or changed noise Fan motor, turntable motor Does it stop after a while 160 to 280
Sparking or scorched cavity Waveguide cover, cavity wall Remove metal items 140 to 260, or replace
Display blank or erratic Control board Breaker reset 220 to 400

These ranges come from our service pricing for microwaves (AED 140 to 420 overall) and are ranges, not a promise. The written quote you receive at the visit is the price.

Normal, or a reason to call?

A lot of microwave calls are not faults. Bosch's pages describe a few normal sounds and behaviours, and we add the rest as our own reading.

What you notice Normal or not Source
Geiger-counter-style ticking while heating Normal Bosch UAE and Singapore
Fan keeps running briefly after the cycle Normal cooling run-on Ours
Fan loud or strange while in standby Not normal; check it stops, then message us Bosch UAE and Singapore
Food smell after a spill Cleaning job Bosch UAE
Condensation on the door glass Normal Ours
Door warm after a long cycle Normal Ours
Smell of burning plastic, smoke or sparks Stop using it Ours

If a row is "ours", it is from the way these appliances are built and not from a Bosch page, so check your manual if you are unsure.

Stop using it, and why

Stop using the microwave and do not run it again until it has been inspected if any of these is true:

  • The door, hinge or seal is damaged, bent, cracked or does not close flush
  • There is scorching, bubbling paint or a burn mark inside the cavity
  • It sparks with only a microwave-safe dish inside, or with nothing inside
  • You smell burning plastic or see smoke
  • The door pops open or the latch does not hold

The reason is the door and its seals keep the microwaves inside the cavity. We do not have a Bosch page that says this about its own products, and it is general microwave practice and our own safety rule. We will not run a microwave with a damaged door to test it, and we will say so on the quote.

Why we open the casing and you should not

Ours, and this is general safety guidance and not a Bosch statement: the inside of a microwave contains a high-voltage capacitor and other parts that can hold a dangerous electrical charge even when the unit is unplugged. For that reason Bosch Singapore's repeated line, "we advise against attempting repairs yourself", is worth taking literally. This is the one appliance where a safe repair needs the right tools and a discharge procedure before anything is touched.

What you can safely do, with the unit isolated at the breaker:

  • Wipe the cavity, the door frame, the seal surface and the plate
  • Lift out the plate and the ring and clean them
  • Check that the plate sits correctly on its hub
  • Release the control lock and reset the unit at the breaker
  • Run the one-cup water test

What you should not do: remove the outer casing, touch anything behind the control panel, bend a hinge or latch back into place, or run the unit with a loose door to see what happens.

We also do not recommend a repair if the unit is damaged in a way that makes it unsafe to test. In that case you pay the AED 99 inspection, and we tell you why the unit should be replaced.

What not to put in it

Several microwave calls start with something that went into the cavity. Bosch Singapore's FAQ lists what to avoid: eggs in the shell or foods with shells, because of the risk of explosion; cherry stone pillows, which can overheat, burn and smell; dehydrating food, for which it recommends a food dryer; metal dishes and aluminium foil, which can cause sparks; and melamine dishes, which may melt and deform. It adds that you should follow the manufacturer's instructions for each item.

Three more habits are ours, and each one shortens a microwave's life. Do not run the unit empty, because with nothing to absorb the energy it falls back on the magnetron and the cavity. Do not heat food in a sealed container, which can burst and spray the cavity walls and the cover. And do not cover food with cling film that touches it or with a lid that is not marked microwave-safe, since melted plastic on the cavity ceiling is a common source of the burnt smell that no cleaning removes.

Cleaning that prevents faults

Grease and spatter lead to scorched covers, sticking turntables and smells that people take for faults. Bosch Singapore's advice is to use a microwave-safe lid while heating to prevent splashes, to remove the turntable and wash it in soapy water, to wipe the inside with a damp cloth and avoid the rough side of a sponge, to use the approved degreaser for tough residue, and to clean promptly after use. Its warnings are never to use oven cleaner and, on lemon juice, that it is not recommended and is not necessary.

Bosch UAE lists a cleaning gel (00311859), a gel spray (00311860) and a degreaser (00312207) for its microwave. The full steps and part numbers are in our Bosch oven and microwave cleaning guide. We do not repeat them here.

Ours, from the way faults develop:

  • Clean the door frame and seal surface weekly. A crust there stops the door sitting flush and wears the seal
  • Wipe the cavity ceiling and the area around the cover when you see spatter, because baked-on grease is what scorches
  • Never run the microwave empty
  • Lift the plate and ring out monthly and wipe the floor beneath them

What happens on a visit, and what it costs

A microwave visit follows the same order as the checks above, and you do not pay for work that is not needed.

  1. We confirm the basics. The technician checks the supply, the control lock, the door closing and the plate seating. These take minutes and sometimes end the visit.
  2. We test the unit. We run the water test and check the door switches and the safety circuit. Before any panel is removed, the unit is isolated and the capacitor is discharged.
  3. We find the failing part. For no heat, that means testing the diode, capacitor, fuse and magnetron in turn. For a stuck plate, the motor and coupler.
  4. We quote before we repair. You get a written price for the part and the labour. The part number is on the quote. You can decline.
  5. We repair and test. We fit the part, run a water test and a full cycle, and check the door closes and latches properly before we leave.

The AED 99 inspection covers the diagnosis and the written quote, and it is deducted from the repair if you go ahead.

What a Bosch microwave repair costs in Dubai

Fault Typical time Price range, AED (before 5% VAT)
No heat: diode, capacitor, fuse or magnetron 45 to 90 min 220 to 420
Turntable motor or coupler 30 to 60 min 140 to 220
Door switch, latch or handle 45 to 75 min 160 to 300
Control board 45 to 90 min 220 to 400

Here is how a quote works. Say a microwave runs but does not heat, and the technician finds a failed high-voltage diode. The all-in repair price is AED 280, and that figure already includes the AED 99 inspection. VAT at 5% is AED 14.00, so you pay AED 294.00. If you decline the repair after the diagnosis, you pay the inspection plus VAT: AED 99 plus AED 4.95, which is AED 103.95.

Most microwave repairs finish in one visit when we know the model code, because we bring the likely part. A control board, a door assembly or a magnetron for a specific model may not be on the van, and we tell you at the diagnosis. The second visit to fit the part is covered by the same quote.

Bosch's microwave pages that we read list no prices, and neither does the Bosch UAE repair page. We found no Bosch price for a microwave repair in the UAE, so our figures stand as our own.

Repair or replace?

The sensible answer depends on the fault and the unit, and these rules are ours:

Situation Our advice
Plate not turning, ring clean Repair. A motor or coupler is a small cost
Door switch or latch fault Repair, if the door and hinge are straight
No heat, diode or capacitor failed Repair, usually the cheaper no-heat fault
No heat, magnetron failed on a premium unit Compare the quote with a new unit
Scorched cavity wall or damaged door frame Usually replace. The cavity cannot be reliably repaired
Control board on a combination oven Repair. The cost of replacing a built-in combination is high
Repaired twice already Ask for a second opinion before paying a third time

A built-in unit is also harder to replace than a freestanding one. It is made to fit a specific cut-out, and our Serie 8 page notes that a compact microwave combination needs a 45 to 45.5 cm opening. Measure before you order anything, and send us the measurements and the model code if you want advice.

Warranty and Bosch contact details

We give a 90-day warranty on parts and labour for the repaired fault. It covers the fault we repaired, and it does not cover a different fault that appears later. Your written invoice shows the part number and the warranty period.

If your microwave is under Bosch's own warranty, contact Bosch first. Bosch UAE's pages list two numbers: +971 600 522 553 for large appliances and BSH 048030400, which is the number printed on its microwave support pages. Bosch UAE also has an online contact form for repair requests. Our guide to Bosch customer care in the UAE lists every route and what each covers.

An independent repair of a microwave that is still under warranty may affect your cover, and we do not give legal advice on a specific warranty. Read your warranty terms, or ask Bosch before you book us.

What to tell us when you book

Send these and the visit is shorter:

  • The model code, or a photo of the rating plate. If you cannot find it, a photo of the whole front with the door open
  • The type: microwave only, microwave with grill, or compact oven with microwave
  • What it does: no heat, plate not turning, will not start, noise, smell, sparks, display fault
  • The result of the one-cup water test
  • Which functions work (microwave, grill, hot air) and which do not
  • A short video of the noise or the plate, if that is the fault
  • Any code or blinking symbol on the display

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Bosch microwave running but not heating?

Bosch New Zealand, South Africa and the US give no causes. Bosch Singapore says to check the plate spins freely and sits level, clean debris from the plate and ring, and test with a cup of water. If the water stays cold, the fault is in the heating path, and we diagnose it.

Is it normal for a Bosch microwave to make a ticking noise?

Bosch UAE and Singapore say a Geiger-counter-like sound comes from the magnetron and is normal. A loud or strange noise in standby may be the fan run-on. If it does not stop after a while, contact customer service.

Why will my Bosch microwave plate not turn?

Bosch US names food debris or objects blocking the turntable. Bosch Singapore adds oversized cookware and debris on the ring. Clean the plate, ring and floor and reseat the plate. If it still does not turn, the motor or coupler is the likely fault, and that is ours.

Why is my Bosch microwave sparking?

Bosch Singapore says metal dishes and aluminium foil can cause sparks. If it sparks with a microwave-safe dish or an empty cavity, stop using it. Ours: the cavity cover may be scorched, and that needs inspection.

Can I fix a Bosch microwave myself?

Bosch Singapore advises against attempting repairs yourself. Ours: a microwave contains a capacitor that can hold a dangerous charge when unplugged, so limit yourself to cleaning and a breaker reset.

Can I use oven cleaner or lemon juice in a Bosch microwave?

No oven cleaner: Bosch Singapore says never to use it. On lemon juice, it says it is not recommended and not necessary. Use soapy water and Bosch's approved degreaser.

Why does my microwave smell burnt?

Bosch UAE says to find the source, clean thoroughly with soapy water, and repeat. If you smell burning plastic or see smoke, ours: switch it off, isolate it and message us.

My microwave will not start but the display works. Why?

Bosch Singapore lists an active control lock, improper door closure and a control panel problem. Release the lock, close the door firmly and reset at the breaker for three minutes. If it still does not start, a door switch is the likely cause.

Do you repair the handle or the turntable plate?

Yes. Send the model code so we quote the right part, with its part number on the invoice. A broken handle is a door repair, and a cracked plate is a model-specific replacement.

Do you repair combination ovens with a microwave function?

Yes, including the CMG compact ovens. Tell us which modes fail. Oven-side faults are also covered on our oven repair page.

How much does a Bosch microwave repair cost in Dubai?

Typically AED 140 to 420 before 5% VAT. The AED 99 inspection is credited to the repair if you go ahead.

Should I repair or replace a Bosch microwave?

Repair for a plate motor, a door switch or a failed diode. Replace if the cavity is scorched or the door frame is damaged, since those cannot be reliably repaired.
