Bosch Dishwasher Door Seal Replacement in Dubai: Is It the Seal? What Bosch Says, Fitting and Cost
When a Bosch dishwasher leaks at the door, Bosch's own pages name two causes, not one. Bosch UK and Bosch Singapore both say the leak comes from a damaged door seal, or from a damaged spray arm or a loose water outlet connection that throws water at the seal. Replacing a seal that is not the problem fixes nothing, so the first job is to tell the two apart.
The rest of what people search for under "door seal" is a different set of problems. A dishwasher that smells is not a seal replacement, according to Bosch's pages. A door that sticks is a cleaning and lubricant question on the Bosch US page. And the one seal job Bosch does describe in steps, on its UK site, is one that Bosch Singapore's leak page advises you not to attempt yourself. This page sets out those sources side by side, says where they disagree, and then covers part matching and what the work costs in Dubai.
We repair Bosch appliances. We are an independent company and not an authorised Bosch agent. If your dishwasher is inside Bosch's warranty, call Bosch first. For other faults and prices see our Bosch dishwasher repair page.
At a glance
- What Bosch lists as the causes of a door leak (UK and Singapore): a damaged door seal, or a damaged spray arm or a loose water outlet connection.
- A seal that needs replacing (Bosch UK): one that "becomes brittle" or "no longer seals water away", or one with visible tears or missing pieces.
- Fitting: Bosch UK describes the replacement as a repair that can be done at home, in five steps, and recommends an engineer if you are not confident. Bosch Singapore advises against attempting repairs yourself if the leak persists.
- Smell: Bosch Egypt and South Africa say run machine cleaner. Bosch US points to food in the filter. None of them says replace the seal.
- A sticking door: Bosch US says sticky seals can hinder the door from opening, and says to clean them with a mild cleaner and "a dab of lubricant".
- Water in the base: the E15 code. Bosch US says turn off the water inflow, then contact support. See our E15 guide.
- A repair in Dubai: typically AED 180 to 420 before 5% VAT for a leak repair involving a seal, hose or pump housing, with a 90-day warranty on our repairs.
What Bosch says causes a leak at the door
We read the dishwasher leak pages on two Bosch sites, the UK and Singapore. We did not find a Bosch UAE page on dishwasher leaks. The Bosch US troubleshooting page has no leak section and sends leaks to support.
| Bosch site | Causes it lists | What it says to do | When to get help |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK | A damaged door seal. A damaged spray arm, or a loose water outlet connection | Inspect the seal with the door open wide. Check the spray arm turns fully and that the pump's outlet tube connection is tight | Bosch's Repair Service can send an engineer, in or out of warranty |
| Singapore | The same two causes | The same checks | "If the issue persists, we advise against attempting repairs yourself". Book a Bosch engineer |
| US | No leak section | Not covered | Contact Bosch Support |
Cause one: the door seal
Both pages say to open the door wide and look at the seal for tears or missing pieces. If you find damage, both say to order a replacement through Bosch's spare parts search, or to call customer service. The UK page's separate door-seal guide adds when a seal needs replacing: if it becomes brittle, or if it no longer seals water away.
Cause two: the spray arm and the outlet connection
A damaged spray arm can direct water at the door seal and cause a leak. Bosch's check is to remove the rack as the manual shows and see whether the spray arm rotates fully. If it does, remove the spray arm as the manual describes and check that the tube connection on the pump's water outlet, behind the spray arm insert, is tight. Then refit the arm. If the arm is visibly damaged, order a replacement the same way as the seal.
What the two pages leave out
- Whether a seal wears faster in some conditions.
- Whether a seal can be refitted if it has only slipped out of its channel.
- Which seal, if the dishwasher has more than one.
- A price.
We cover what we can below and mark which points are ours.
How to tell a seal fault from the look-alikes
Our dishwasher page has a leak table, and the Bosch pages cover only part of it. Read them together.
| Where the water appears | What it can be | Who says so |
|---|---|---|
| At the front of the door, at the bottom edge | A damaged or lifted door seal | Bosch UK and Singapore |
| At the front, only during the wash | A spray arm that is damaged or has come loose, or a rack that blocks it, so water sprays at the door | Bosch UK and Singapore (spray arm), our page (rack) |
| At the front, with a lot of foam | Too much detergent | Our page, and not a Bosch leak page |
| At the front, with a loose panel | A door panel that has come loose | Our page |
| At the back or under the machine | A hose connection or the inlet valve | Our page |
| When the pump runs | The pump housing or its seal | Our page |
| In the base, with a code on the display | The E15 float and leakage protection | Bosch US error list |
A test you can do without opening anything
This is the method on our dishwasher page. Dry the floor and the base of the machine. Put a few paper towels along the front, the sides and the back. Run a short cycle and see which one gets wet and when. The timing matters: water at the front during the wash points at the spray arm and the door, and water that appears when the pump runs points at the pump.
What the base float does
Our dishwasher page describes Bosch's leak protection as a float in the base that triggers when water collects in the tray, and that shows as E15. Bosch US's E15 entry says water was detected in the base, leakage protection was activated, and to turn off the water inflow, then contact support. The code does not say where the water came from. Our E15 guide covers what each source says.
Do not reset and carry on
If E15 is on the display, a reset does not fix the leak. The float has done its job and the water is still there. Turn the tap off and book.
The case for finding the source first
A new seal costs less than a module and more than a wipe, and it fixes nothing if the spray arm is the cause. Our dishwasher page says water that reaches the control module turns a cheap repair into an expensive one. Our control board guide covers that side. Stop using a leaking dishwasher until you know where the water is going.
What a seal fault looks like
Bosch's pages say little about the signs, so this section is Bosch's words plus a plain description.
What Bosch says
- Visible damage: tears or missing pieces. (Bosch UK and Singapore.)
- Brittle: the seal "becomes brittle". (Bosch UK door-seal page.)
- No longer seals: it "no longer seals water away". (Bosch UK.)
What to look at, with the door open
Our description, built from those three signs:
- Run your eye along the whole seal, including the corners and the bottom edge.
- Look for a split, a tear, a missing piece or a flattened section. Bosch's wording is tears or missing pieces.
- Look for a seal that has lifted out of its channel. The UK page describes the seal as sitting in a channel on the door's edge. We do not know how often a seal simply slips, and Bosch's pages do not say.
- Look for hard, cracked rubber, which fits Bosch's word "brittle".
- Look at the tub edge where the seal meets it, for food or residue.
What a seal fault does not look like
A seal that looks sound but a floor that is wet is not a seal fault until the other causes are ruled out. The spray arm and the pump outlet connection are the two Bosch names. If the seal looks fine, check the arm.
Take a photo
A photo of the seal and of the wet area helps. Send both with your E-Nr before the visit.
Bosch UK's fitting steps
Bosch UK has a page on replacing the door seal, and it is the only Bosch page we found that gives steps. We attribute every step to it, and the page is written for the UK. We have not seen a UAE version.
The sequence
- Open the door and pull the old seal out of the channel on the door's edge.
- Clean the channel and the door with a paper towel, remove all debris, and let the channel dry.
- Position the new seal in the centre, so it sits evenly on both sides.
- Press the middle of the seal into the channel across the top, then work evenly down both sides.
- Check the seal is correctly placed, then close the door firmly to push it into the channel.
Bosch describes this as a repair that can be done at home. It lists no separate safety warnings. It says that if you are not confident, Bosch recommends booking an engineer to fit the replacement.
What the page does not say
- Which models it applies to.
- Whether any tool or lubricant is needed.
- How long it takes.
- What to do if the seal will not seat.
- Whether the machine should be disconnected first.
Where Singapore differs
Bosch Singapore's leak page advises: "If the issue persists, we advise against attempting repairs yourself." That is the general line on the page, and it comes after the two checks, not after a seal replacement. The Singapore page does not give fitting steps.
So the two Bosch sites do not give the same advice on owner repairs. The UK treats seal fitting as an owner job. Singapore treats a persistent leak as an engineer's job. We do not choose between them, and we explain our position next.
Our position on fitting it yourself
Bosch UK says it can be done at home, and we do not argue that an owner cannot replace a seal. These are our own points, and they are not Bosch's.
When fitting yourself is reasonable
- You have found the cause, and it is a seal with visible damage.
- You have the correct part for your model, matched to the E-Nr.
- You are comfortable with the five steps, and the dishwasher is unplugged with the water tap off.
When we would rather look first
- The leak is not clearly at the seal. The spray arm and the outlet connection are the other Bosch cause.
- There was water in the base, or a code. A leak that has reached the base may have reached more than the seal.
- The part is not clearly the right one. A near match can fail to seat.
- The seal is not sitting well in the channel. Bosch UK's step five is to check placement, and a seal that will not seat is a sign of a wrong part or a damaged channel.
What we do
We check the seal, the spray arm and its connection, the hoses and the pump housing, find the source and quote the work. If the seal is the fault, we fit the correct seal, clean the channel and run a test cycle. The part number appears on your invoice. We do not claim a seal is original Bosch on the strength of a number.
"Lower door seal" and the other seals
Searchers write "lower door seal", "rubber seal" and "gasket", and ask about the bottom edge of the door. We can say little that is sourced.
What Bosch's pages cover
Bosch UK's leak and door-seal pages talk about "the door seal" as one item that sits in a channel on the door's edge. Bosch Singapore's leak page also says "door seal". Neither page describes a separate lower seal.
What we can say from our own work
Our dishwasher page puts water at the front of the door first among the leak sources. Whether your model has a single seal that runs around the door or a separate one at the bottom depends on the machine, and we do not have a Bosch source to cite. Send us the E-Nr and a photo of the seal and the bottom edge, and the quote names the part.
The other seals in the machine
A dishwasher also has seals in the pump housing and around the circulation pump. Our E15 guide lists them among the causes sites name, and our dishwasher page lists the pump housing and its seal for water that appears when the pump runs. They are separate jobs with a separate part.
Smells and mould are not a seal replacement
A smelling dishwasher is a common reason people search for door seal replacement, so here is what Bosch's pages say.
| Bosch site | What it says about a smelling dishwasher |
|---|---|
| Egypt | It "urgently needs to be run with machine cleaner". The cleaner is sold through the Bosch Accessories Store. Do not leave dirty dishes in the machine for long |
| South Africa | The same wording. The only cause named is leftover food |
| US | Food particles and debris stuck in the filter. Use dishwasher cleaner a few times a year, and descaler for limescale. Clean the filter regularly. Check the spray arms are not clogged |
What none of them says
None of the three says to replace the seal for a smell. The Egypt and South Africa pages do not mention the seal at all, and the US page does not mention it for smell. A seal can hold residue, and wiping it is on our own maintenance list, but Bosch's pages do not tie odour to the seal.
What to do
- Run the Bosch machine cleaner as the pages say. The US page says to add one box of cleaner to the bottom of the dishwasher and run the hottest, longest cycle.
- Clean the filter. Our filter guide compares Bosch's intervals and steps by country.
- Check the spray arms for blocked holes. The US page suggests a toothpick to loosen debris.
- Wipe the door seal and the tub edge when you do the filter. That is our habit, and it costs a minute.
- Do not leave dirty dishes sitting. Bosch Egypt and South Africa say so.
When a smell does point at the seal
If the seal is split, torn or lifted and food is trapped behind it, the seal is part of the story, and a technician can say so. We would still clean the machine first. That is our view, not a Bosch rule.
A door that sticks or will not open
Bosch US has one piece of guidance that is about the seal and the door, and it is for a different problem.
What Bosch US says
Under the AutoAir heading, Bosch US says: "Sticky seals can hinder the door from opening." Its fix is to clean the seals with a mild cleaner and apply a dab of lubricant, so the door moves smoothly.
The limits
- It is on the Bosch US page, and it is about a door that sticks, not about a leak.
- It does not name the lubricant. We will not name one either, because we have no Bosch source for which is safe on your seal.
- The page does not say which models have AutoAir.
Hinges and the latch
Bosch US says to check the hinges for damage or a door that does not move freely, and that damaged hinges need professional repair. It says a broken latch needs professional replacement "for safety reasons". Our control board guide covers how a latch fault can look like an electronics fault.
If the door will not stay closed
That is not a seal problem on Bosch's pages. A door that will not hold is a latch, a spring or a hinge question, and it carries a different price on our dishwasher page. Our Bosch dishwasher door, hinge and latch guide covers it.
A front leak, step by step
This is the order we would follow. Steps four to seven are Bosch's own, from the UK and Singapore leak pages. The rest is ours.
- Unplug the machine and turn the water tap off. Ours.
- Dry the floor and the base, and put paper towels along the front, sides and back. Ours, from our dishwasher page.
- Run one short cycle with the machine plugged back in and watch which towel gets wet, and when. Ours.
- Open the door wide and look at the whole seal for tears or missing pieces. Bosch UK and Singapore.
- Remove the rack as the manual shows and check the spray arm turns fully. Bosch UK and Singapore.
- If it turns, remove the arm following the manual and check the tube connection on the pump's water outlet is tight. Bosch UK and Singapore.
- Refit the arm. If it is visibly damaged, order a replacement. Bosch UK and Singapore.
- Photograph the seal and the wet area, and note the E-Nr.
- Stop and book if the leak continues. Bosch Singapore advises against repairing it yourself, and Bosch UK says to arrange an engineer.
Step three is a judgement call. If you can already see water pooling under the machine, skip the test run and go straight to the photographs.
Other door problems, and where they go
| What is wrong | What Bosch's pages say | Where to go |
|---|---|---|
| Water at the door edge | Door seal, or spray arm and outlet connection (UK, Singapore) | This page |
| Water in the base, with E15 | Turn off the water inflow, then contact support (US) | E15 guide |
| A door that sticks | Sticky seals: mild cleaner and a dab of lubricant (US) | The sticking door section above |
| A door that will not close or start | Latch and lock need professional repair (US) | Control board guide |
| A door that will not hold | Hinges: damaged hinges need professional repair (US) | Dishwasher repair page |
| A smell | Run machine cleaner (Egypt, South Africa). Clean the filter (US) | Filter guide |
| A loose door panel | Not covered by a Bosch page we read | Dishwasher repair page |
Questions to ask before you approve a seal quote
These apply to us as much as to any other repairer.
- Was the source of the leak confirmed? The seal, the spray arm and its connection, the hoses and the pump housing are all candidates.
- Is the seal named? The quote should say which seal and which model code it was ordered against.
- Was the channel cleaned, and was the fit checked? Bosch UK's steps include cleaning the channel and checking placement.
- Was water damage near the module checked?
- What happens if the part is not on the van? You should be told the lead time and the price.
- What is the warranty? Ours is 90 days on the part and labour for the repaired fault.
- What do you pay if you decline? It should be a number.
- Is VAT a separate line? Ours is 5%.
If you rent
Tell your landlord before you approve a repair, and keep the invoice. We list part numbers on it. We do not know your tenancy terms, so we do not say who pays.
Ordering the right seal
A seal has to fit the machine. These are the points that matter.
The E-Nr
The E-Nr is on the rating plate, a sticker usually on the edge of the door or the inner side of the tub. Bosch UK's page says to enter your appliance details in the spare parts search to find the correct part. Our dishwasher page explains that two machines in the same series can differ inside, so a part is matched to the E-Nr and not to the series name.
Bosch's ordering routes
- UK: the spare parts search, or customer service.
- Singapore: the spare parts search, or customer care.
- UAE: we found no Bosch UAE page on ordering a dishwasher seal. Bosch UAE's pages for cleaning products say to order them through the Authorized Service Center, and we do not know whether the same route applies to seals.
What we do not know
We do not know which seals Bosch sells directly in the UAE, what it costs, or how long it takes. We will not guess. Our dishwasher page says we carry door seals for popular Bosch models. For any model we do not carry, the quote gives the lead time before you approve.
Why a near match is a risk
A seal that is close in size can look right and fail to seat, and Bosch UK's final step is to check placement. If the seal does not sit evenly in the channel on both sides, stop and ask rather than forcing it. This point is ours.
The visit and the cost
The AED 99 inspection includes the visit, the diagnosis and a written quote. If you approve the repair, the AED 99 comes off the repair price. If you decline, it is all you pay.
What the visit covers
- Finding the source: the seal, the spray arm and its connection, the hoses, the pump housing, and the base.
- Checking for water damage near the control module.
- The repair, with the part named on the quote.
- A test cycle with the door closed, and a check for dry edges after it.
Typical costs, excluding 5% VAT
| Fault | What is done | Time on site | Price (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leaking | Replace the seal, hose or housing | 45 to 90 min | 180 – 420 |
| Door will not hold | Replace the spring, cable or latch | 45 to 90 min | 180 – 340 |
Our dishwasher page gives AED 180 to 420 for door seals, hoses and pump housings together, so the quote says where in that band a seal on its own falls.
What moves the quote
Three things. The part: a seal costs less than a pump housing. Access: an integrated dishwasher behind a cabinet panel takes longer to pull out and refit. And stock: if the part is not on the van, the price is the same but you wait for a second visit. We tell you the lead time before you approve.
A worked example
Your Bosch leaks from the front, and the technician finds a split door seal. The all-in price is AED 260, and the AED 99 inspection is included in that figure. VAT adds AED 13, so you pay AED 273. If you decline the quote, you pay AED 99 plus AED 4.95 VAT, a total of AED 103.95.
The warranty
Every repair carries a 90-day warranty on the parts fitted and the labour for the repaired fault. If the same fault returns inside 90 days, we come back at no charge. The part number is listed on your invoice.
After a new seal
Bosch's pages stop at "check the seal is correctly placed, then close the door firmly". These points are ours.
The first cycles
Run the first cycle with the door closed and watch the front edge and the floor. Check again after the next two or three cycles. A seal that was seated slightly off can look dry once and weep later, and it is easier to put right early. If water appears, stop, turn the tap off and tell us. The 90-day warranty covers the repaired fault.
What a new seal does not fix
- A spray arm that throws water at the door. Bosch UK and Singapore name this as the other cause, and a new seal does not cure it.
- A loose pump outlet connection. The same pages name it.
- A split hose or a worn pump housing seal. Those are separate repairs, and they sit in the same price band on our dishwasher page.
- Too much detergent foam. Our dishwasher page lists it as a front-of-door leak cause, and the answer is the dose, not the seal.
What to keep
The invoice with the part number, and a photo of the seal as fitted. If the same fault returns inside 90 days, we come back at no charge. If you sell or move the machine, the invoice shows what was replaced.
Check the seal again in a month
Open the door and run your eye along the seal, as in the inspection above. It takes a minute. If the seal has lifted at a corner or the channel shows residue, wipe it dry and tell us before the next cycle.
Repair or replace the dishwasher
A seal is one of the cheaper dishwasher repairs, and the sum rarely favours replacing the machine. Compare the written quote with a current price for an equivalent new machine, since prices change. As an illustration with an assumed new price of AED 2,200, a quote of AED 260 is about 12%, well under our rule of thumb of half.
The question that matters more is what else is wearing. A split seal on a machine with rusting racks, a noisy pump and a tired spray arm is the first of several bills. Our dishwasher page works this through with its own examples. Ask the technician what else they saw, and ask what the next likely item is.
The age of the machine
Bosch UK says a seal that becomes brittle needs replacing, and it gives no lifespan, so we cannot give one. A split seal on a machine in its first years is worth raising with the technician.
Keeping the seal in good order
Bosch's pages give no routine seal-care schedule for dishwashers. These points combine what Bosch says with our own habits.
- Wipe the seal and the tub edge when you clean the filter. Ours.
- Do not leave dirty dishes in the machine. Bosch Egypt and South Africa.
- Run the cleaner a few times a year. Bosch US, for odours and residue.
- Clean a sticky seal with a mild cleaner. Bosch US.
- Leave the door ajar after the cycle if the machine does not open it for you, so the seal and tub dry. Ours.
- Look at the seal now and then, with the door open, for tears, hard patches or a section that has lifted. Bosch UK and Singapore name tears and missing pieces.
- Keep the racks clear of the spray arms, since a blocked arm can throw water at the door. Our dishwasher page.
What to tell us
- The E-Nr from the rating plate, as a photo.
- Where the water appears: the front, the bottom edge, the back, or only when the pump runs.
- When it happens: at the start, during the wash, or at the end.
- A photo of the seal, with the door open, and of the wet area.
- Any code on the display, especially E15.
- What you have tried: the spray arm check, a clean, a new seal.
- Detergent: which one, and whether you saw foam.
- Access: integrated or freestanding, and your building's access rules.
Frequently asked questions
Does a leaking Bosch dishwasher always need a new door seal?
No. Bosch UK and Singapore name two causes: a damaged door seal, or a damaged spray arm or a loose water outlet connection.
How do I know the seal is damaged?
Bosch UK and Singapore say to open the door wide and look for tears or missing pieces. Bosch UK says a seal that becomes brittle, or no longer seals water away, needs replacing.
Can I replace the door seal myself?
Bosch UK describes a five-step replacement as a repair that can be done at home, and recommends an engineer if you are not confident. Bosch Singapore advises against attempting repairs yourself if a leak persists.
How do I find the right seal?
Use the E-Nr from the rating plate. Bosch UK's page says to enter your appliance details in the spare parts search. We match the part to your E-Nr.
Does a smelling dishwasher need a new seal?
Bosch Egypt and South Africa say run machine cleaner. Bosch US points to food in the filter and recommends a cleaner and descaler a few times a year. None says to replace the seal.
My door sticks. Is the seal the cause?
Bosch US says sticky seals can hinder the door from opening, and says to clean them with a mild cleaner and apply a dab of lubricant. Hinges and latches need a professional.
What does E15 mean here?
Water was found in the base and leakage protection was activated. Bosch US says to turn off the water inflow, then contact support. A reset does not fix the leak.
How much does it cost in Dubai?
A leak repair involving a seal, hose or pump housing is typically AED 180 to 420 before 5% VAT, with the AED 99 inspection credited if you approve. The written quote gives the exact figure.
Is the lower door seal a separate part?
We found no Bosch page that says. It depends on the model, so send us the E-Nr and a photo.
Can I keep using the dishwasher with a leak?
Our dishwasher page says to stop using it for any leak you cannot trace to a loose connection you have fixed yourself, because water that reaches the control module turns a cheap repair into an expensive one.
My dishwasher is under warranty. Should I still message you?
Contact Bosch first. We are an independent repair company and not an authorised Bosch agent, and a repair by us may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty terms.
Book a leak check
Send us the E-Nr, a photo of the seal and where the water shows. We confirm a time window and the price range before we set off. Send us a WhatsApp message with the photos, or use the online booking form. We repair Bosch dishwashers across Dubai, with typical arrival times of 50 to 75 minutes after the technician sets off.
