Bosch Dishwasher Rack and Spray Arm Replacement in Dubai: Rust, Rollers, Blocked Arms, What You Can Order, and Cost
Most people who search for a spray arm or a rack replacement are fixing a symptom. The dishes come out dirty, an arm does not turn, a rack has gone orange at the tines, or a basket will not slide. Bosch's own support pages treat several of these as cleaning jobs first and as parts you order second. They are also short on fitting steps. The UK page on spray arms says to order a replacement through the spare parts search and gives no steps for removing or fitting one. The UK rack page says "sometimes the best way to go about a rusty dishwasher rack is to order a replacement" and gives no steps either.
That leaves a gap between "your arm is blocked" and "your arm is cracked", between "your cutlery has rust spots" and "your rack is rusting", and between a rack problem and a pump problem that looks like one. This page fills it. It separates the causes, sets out what Bosch's UK, Singapore, UAE, Egypt and Hong Kong pages say, and explains when to stop cleaning and order a part, when to message us on WhatsApp, and what a visit costs in Dubai.
We repair Bosch appliances. We are an independent company and not an authorised Bosch agent. If your dishwasher is inside Bosch's warranty, call Bosch first. For other faults and prices see our Bosch dishwasher repair page.
At a glance
- An arm that does not spin is usually dirty. Bosch UK and Singapore say the "build-up of dirt and debris" is by far the most common cause. Damage and a blocked spray path come after.
- A blocked arm leaves dishes dirty. Bosch UAE and Egypt say blocked spray arms cannot distribute water adequately, which also stops the tablet dissolving.
- Bosch's cleaning step: unscrew the upper arm, remove the lower arm, clear the nozzles with a cocktail stick, rinse and refit.
- A visibly damaged arm is replaced. Bosch UK and Singapore say to order the part through the spare parts search or customer care.
- A rusty rack: Bosch UK says the best option may be to order a replacement. Rust on cutlery is a different matter and, Bosch UK says, "does not mean that your appliance is faulty".
- No Bosch page we read gives fitting steps for an arm, a rack, a wheel or a rail.
- A weak circulation pump can look like an arm problem. Our dishwasher page lists clean upper racks and dirty lower ones as a sign.
- A repair in Dubai: typically AED 180 to 460 before 5% VAT for a not-cleaning fault, with a 90-day warranty on our repairs.
Arm, rack or pump: which part is the fault
Three different parts get blamed for dishes that stay dirty, and they have different fixes. Sort the symptom before you buy anything.
| What you notice | Most likely part | First step |
|---|---|---|
| An arm does not turn when you spin it by hand | The arm, blocked or damaged, or something in its path | Clean it, then check the path. Bosch UK and Singapore |
| Dishes are dirty and the tablet is still whole | Blocked arms or loading | Bosch UAE and Egypt: clear the nozzles, check nothing sits above the tablet tray |
| Orange spots on the rack tines or coating | The rack coating | Bosch UK: replacement may be best |
| Rust spots on cutlery | Salt, acid, a rusting item in the wash, or less resistant cutlery | Bosch UK: not a fault. Remove rusting items |
| A basket will not slide | The rack wheels or rails | Bosch UK sells replacement wheels. No fitting steps |
| Upper rack clean, lower rack dirty, a low hum | The circulation pump | See the pump section below. Our dishwasher page |
| A code about the lower arm's position | The controlled lower arm, on selected models | Bosch's list says to call support. Our dishwasher page |
Why the order matters
The cost of each part differs by model, and we give no prices for the parts themselves. A circulation pump needs a visit and a part. If the real fault is a block or a load problem, none of them is worth buying. Bosch's pages put cleaning first for that reason, and the table above follows the same order.
What a damaged part looks like
Bosch UK names cracks and missing pieces as the signs of a damaged arm. A damaged rack shows as rust through the coating, or as a wheel or rail that has broken or come loose. A part that is only dirty or only loaded badly does not need replacing.
What Bosch says about spray arms
We read the spray arm and not-cleaning pages on five Bosch sites. The table sets out what each says about the arm itself.
| Bosch site | Causes it names | Steps it gives | If the arm is damaged | If it continues |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UK ("spray arm not spinning") | Dirt and debris (the most common), a damaged arm, a blocked path such as a pan handle | Remove the basket, take out the top and bottom arms, inspect them, check nothing blocks the path | Buy a replacement through the spare parts search, or call customer service | Customer service. The page gives a UK phone number |
| Singapore ("spray arm not spinning") | The same three | The same | Order a replacement through the spare parts search or customer care | "We advise against attempting repairs yourself" if the problem persists. Book a Bosch engineer |
| UAE ("not cleaning") | Blocked spray arms are the second of five causes | Unscrew the upper arm, remove the lower arm, clear the nozzles with a cocktail stick, rinse, refit | Not covered | A Bosch service expert. BSH 048030400 |
| Egypt ("not cleaning") | The same five causes | The same steps | Not covered | A Bosch service expert. Call centre and email on the page |
| Hong Kong ("not cleaning") | Asks only whether the arms are clean | None | Not covered | Customer service, with online booking |
The causes agree
The UK and Singapore pages put dirt first and call it "by far the most common" reason. The UAE and Egypt pages list blocked arms second, after an undissolved tablet. That matches our dishwasher page, which lists toothpicks, seeds and scale as the usual blockers.
Where they differ
Only the UK and Singapore pages mention damage and replacement. The UAE and Egypt pages stop at cleaning and a service expert. The Hong Kong page does not go beyond a question. The UK page offers a customer service number for parts, and the Singapore page advises against doing the repair yourself when the problem persists. Neither contradicts the other. They differ in how much they say.
What none of them gives
- How to remove a damaged arm, or what holds it on.
- A part number or a price.
- How long an arm lasts.
- A way to tell a cracked arm from a worn one without taking it out.
We therefore give no fitting steps here. Where our own method differs from Bosch's, we mark it as ours.
Checks before you buy a part
Bosch's pages give a short sequence that costs nothing. We follow it, with the points each page adds.
- Switch off and unplug the machine. Our dishwasher page's own cleaning steps start this way.
- Remove the lower rack to reach the lower arm. The Bosch UK and Singapore pages say to remove the basket to access the arms.
- Take out the upper and lower arms. Bosch UAE and Egypt say to unscrew the upper arm and remove the lower arm. Neither page says what holds them. Check your manual.
- Inspect them for cracks or missing pieces. Bosch UK and Singapore.
- Clear the nozzles with a cocktail stick, rinse them and shake off the water. Bosch UAE and Egypt. Our dishwasher page says toothpicks, seeds and scale are the usual causes.
- Refit both arms and spin them by hand. Our dishwasher page says to check they move freely.
- Check nothing blocks the path before the next cycle. Bosch UK and Singapore give a pan handle as an example, and our dishwasher page says a tall pot in the lower rack stops the lower arm turning.
- Check the tablet tray. Bosch UAE says utensils must not sit above the tablet collecting tray, because they can block the dispenser lid.
- Clean the filter set if the dishes are still dirty. Bosch UAE lists a blocked filter as a separate cause. Our filter guide has the steps.
- Run one cycle and judge the result.
The tablet as a clue
Bosch UAE and Egypt make a point that is easy to overlook. A blocked spray arm stops water reaching the dispenser, so the tablet does not dissolve. If you find a half-dissolved tablet at the end of a cycle, the arms are a likely suspect before the detergent is.
What to do with the result
If a cleaned arm spins freely and the dishes are clean, the problem was a block and you need no part. If an arm is cracked, or will not turn when clear, order the part against your model. If the arms are fine and the dishes are still dirty, move to the pump section.
What Bosch says about racks and rust
Two Bosch UK pages cover racks. One is about rack repair and one about rust spots. They say different things, and owners often mix them up.
The rack repair page
The UK rack page makes five points:
- The coating. Racks are "made out of durable material, which is coated with protective layers to prevent rusting and corrosion".
- How damage starts. Intense use and irregular maintenance "could lead to damage to the racks". Careless loading causes "nicks, which could later develop into rusting spots".
- The remedy for rust. "Sometimes the best way to go about a rusty dishwasher rack is to order a replacement." The page adds that this will ensure rust does not deposit onto your dishes.
- Ordering. You can buy a replacement rack through the spare parts search by entering your appliance information, or call customer service.
- Wheels. Replacement rack wheels are sold in the online store.
What the page does not give is any step for repairing or reattaching a roller, wheel or rail, any repair kit, or any way to diagnose a rack that will not slide. Its meta description promises more than the body delivers.
The rust spots page
The UK rust page is about the dishes and not the rack. It says metals rust on contact with oxygen or water, which "is a natural chemical reaction and does not mean that your appliance is faulty". It names the causes:
- Salt and acid speed up corrosion.
- A rusting item in the same wash spreads rust to cutlery.
- High salt content in the rinse water makes corrosion faster.
- Less rust-resistant cutlery rusts over time, and knife blades more than spoons, forks and pan handles.
- Stainless steel and silver touching can discolour.
The page says to check for rusting items "such as damaged pan handles or a damaged utensil basket" and to keep them out of the wash. It says a damaged utensil basket should be replaced. It gives no way to remove existing rust, and no guidance on repairing the rack or the tub.
The distinction that saves money
Rust on cutlery and rust on a rack are two problems. The first may come from the cutlery, the salt or a rusting item in the load, and Bosch UK says it is not a machine fault. The second is damage to the coating, and Bosch UK's answer is a replacement rack. Replacing a rack does not fix cutlery that is itself rusting, and replacing cutlery does not fix a rack with a broken coating.
What counts as a rusty rack
A few orange spots on a tine are one thing and flaking coating across a basket is another. Bosch's page does not draw a line between them, and we do not invent one. If you are unsure, send us a photo and we will tell you what we see.
Rollers, wheels and rails
Bosch UK says replacement wheels are sold in its online store and gives no fitting guidance.
What we can say
- A basket that drags or will not slide may have a worn or broken wheel, a bent rail or something caught in the runner. Our dishwasher page says that a door that will not close is usually blocked by a rack or an item sticking out, and that the racks should sit fully in their runners.
- Check the rack sits fully in its runners before you decide a part is broken.
- A wheel is a small part and a rack is a large one. Ask whether the wheel alone is available for your model.
What we cannot say
How a wheel clips on, whether it is the same for every model, and what the rails are made of. The Bosch pages do not say, and we do not guess. Send us the E-Nr and a photo of the wheel and the rail, and we confirm what is available.
A caution
Do not force a rack into a runner. A bent rail or a cracked wheel gets worse under force, and a rack that is jammed halfway can also stop the door closing.
The spray arm the machine controls
Some Bosch dishwashers have a lower spray arm whose position the machine itself controls. Our dishwasher page names it PowerControl and lists it as a feature on selected models. It adds that a reference-position fault is a call-support code on Bosch's list.
What that means for you
If your machine shows a code about the arm's position, cleaning the nozzles will not clear it. Bosch's instruction is to call support, and our dishwasher page says the same. Do not force the arm round by hand.
How to tell
Check the manual for your model, which lists the codes and the features. We do not list the code here, because the Bosch pages we read do not give a code for this arm that we could verify against our dishwasher page.
What it costs
We price it as a not-cleaning or a component fault after diagnosis. The quote names the part.
Safety and what to leave alone
- Unplug before you remove racks or arms. The machine has live parts, and a cycle can start if you bump a button.
- Let the machine cool. If it has just run a hot cycle, the arms and the tub are hot.
- Do not force an arm or a rack. A part that is stuck is stuck for a reason, and forcing it can break it.
- Do not use anything abrasive on the filter or the nozzles. Bosch UAE and Egypt warn against abrasives on the filter, and a cocktail stick is the tool for the nozzles.
- Do not remove panels or touch the pump. That is a technician job.
- Do not keep running the machine with a damaged arm. Bosch Singapore says a damaged arm "will not spin properly and will lead to insufficient cleaning results". If a damaged arm also catches on a rack, stop and book. This last point is ours.
A note on cutlery
A rusting rack or a damaged utensil basket should come out of the wash. Bosch UK says to keep rusting items away from your cutlery. If you cannot replace the rack at once, do not load cutlery against the rusted section.
Matching the part to your E-Nr
Arms, racks and wheels are model-specific. Our dishwasher page says two machines in the same series can use different pumps, heaters and control modules, and that the number that matters is the E-Nr on the rating plate. Bosch UK's spare parts search works the same way: you enter your appliance information.
Where the E-Nr is
Our dishwasher page says the rating plate is a sticker usually on the edge of the door or the inner side panel when you open it. Photograph it before you order or call.
What to photograph for a part
- The rating plate.
- The damaged arm or rack, from two angles.
- The wheel and rail, if it is a sliding fault.
- The place where the arm clips on, if you have removed it.
Stock
Our dishwasher page says we carry the common parts for popular Bosch models, and that model-specific parts are ordered once the fault is confirmed. Racks and arms are model-specific, so we check availability against your E-Nr before we quote. We do not claim a part is original Bosch because of a number. The part number appears on your invoice.
Ordering it yourself
You may order a part directly. Bosch UK and Singapore point to the spare parts search for that. The risk is a wrong fit, so check the E-Nr before you pay. If you want us to fit it, tell us which part you have so the technician can bring the right tools.
When it is the pump and not the arm
The arm is the visible part and the pump is the part behind it. Our dishwasher page says that once the filter, arms, load, detergent and programme are ruled out and the dishes are still dirty, the circulation pump is the suspect. That is the pump that pushes water through the spray arms.
Signs from our dishwasher page
A weak circulation pump gives sluggish spray, a low hum, and clean upper racks with dirty lower ones. The page calls it a technician job with a typical range of AED 180 to 460. A grinding or crunching sound is almost always debris in the pump, according to the same page.
How the arm and the pump differ
An arm that is blocked or cracked fails at the arm. A pump that is weak sends too little water to a perfectly good arm. You can often tell by spinning the arm: if it spins freely by hand and the spray is still weak, the arm is not the cause. This test is ours.
What to do
If the arms are clean and undamaged and the dishes are still dirty, stop buying parts. Book an inspection. The technician tests the pump and the flow, and our drain pump guide covers the related pump on the drain side. The circulation pump and the drain pump are different parts.
The visit and the cost
The AED 99 inspection includes the visit, the diagnosis and a written quote. If you approve the repair, the AED 99 comes off the repair price. If you decline, it is all you pay.
Typical costs, excluding 5% VAT
| Fault | What is done | Time on site | Price (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Not cleaning | Clean or replace the spray arm, or repair the circulation pump | 60 to 90 min | 180 – 460 |
| Rack, wheel or rail | Quote after we confirm the part for your E-Nr | Varies | Quoted per part |
The not-cleaning range is from our dishwasher page and covers the circulation pump, the spray arm and blocked nozzles. We give no fixed range for racks, because the price depends on the rack, the wheel or the rail and on whether the part is in stock.
What moves the quote
The part decides most of it. An arm, a wheel and a whole rack are different prices. Access matters for a built-in machine. Stock decides whether one visit is enough or two.
A worked example
This is an illustration and not a price list. A technician confirms a cracked lower spray arm on a freestanding machine. Suppose the all-in price is AED 240, which includes the AED 99 inspection. VAT adds AED 12, so you pay AED 252. If you decline the quote, you pay AED 99 plus AED 4.95 VAT, a total of AED 103.95. Your quote names the part and the price.
The warranty
Every repair carries a 90-day warranty on the parts fitted and the labour for the repaired fault. If the same fault returns inside 90 days, we come back at no charge.
Loading so the arms can turn
Bosch's UAE and Egypt pages list improper loading as a cause of dirty dishes, and the UK and Singapore pages name a blocked spray path as a reason an arm will not turn. Most blocked arms are a loading problem and not a part problem.
Bosch UAE's loading advice
- Put cups and glasses in the top basket, and larger items, pots and pans in the bottom basket.
- Scrape off large pieces of food.
- Place knives sharp-edge down.
- Mix cutlery so it does not nest.
- Do not let utensils sit above the tablet collecting tray.
What our dishwasher page adds
A tall pot in the lower rack stops the lower arm turning, and a baking tray blocking the detergent drawer stops the tablet releasing. Check that nothing blocks the arm or the dispenser door.
A quick test before each cycle
Close the door only after spinning each arm once by hand. If an arm catches on a handle or a pot, move the item. It takes seconds and it prevents the commonest cause Bosch names for a dirty load. The test is ours.
Loading and the rack coating
Bosch UK says careless loading causes the nicks that later develop into rust spots. A knife dragged across a tine, or a heavy pot dropped into a basket, can chip the protective layer. Load with the rack pulled fully out, and place heavy items down and not drop them. This follows from Bosch UK's wording on nicks, and the handling advice is ours.
Keeping racks and arms in good condition
Bosch's pages give a few habits that protect both parts. We list them with their source.
- Clean the interior regularly. Bosch UK says cleaning the interior boosts the performance of the wash cycles, and links it to a longer rack life.
- Keep rusting items out of the wash. Bosch UK says a damaged pan handle or utensil basket can spread rust to cutlery.
- Remove spilled salt and make sure the salt dispenser lock is fastened. Bosch UK, on the rust page.
- Rinse cutlery soon after meals, or use a pre-rinse cycle, to remove acid and salt. Bosch UK.
- Use stainless steel cutlery, and keep stainless steel and silver apart. Bosch UK.
- Clear the nozzles when you clean the filter. Our dishwasher page lists the arms in its maintenance steps, along with the filter set and the door seal.
What we cannot give you
An interval for checking the arms, and a lifespan for a rack. Bosch's pages give neither.
Using Bosch's spare parts search
Bosch UK and Singapore both send you to a spare parts search for arms and racks. The search asks for your appliance information, and that is the E-Nr on the rating plate.
What to enter
The E-Nr first. Bosch Singapore's booking pages also ask for the FD production number, which sits on the same plate, and it is worth photographing both. A search by series name or by a retailer's product title can return a part for a similar model.
What to check on the result
- That the part is listed for your exact E-Nr.
- Whether it is an arm, a basket or a wheel. A "rack" listing may cover the whole basket.
- Whether the page says anything about fitting. The UK and Singapore pages we read do not.
A note on other sellers
Parts sites, forums and repair channels sell and describe racks and arms, and some give fitting steps. We did not use them as sources here, because their guidance differs by model and we cannot check it against Bosch. If you buy from one, match the part to your E-Nr and not to the photo.
Questions to ask before you approve a quote
- Which part is damaged, and how was it confirmed? An arm, a rack, a wheel, a rail or the pump.
- Is the part confirmed for my E-Nr? A wrong-fit part costs you a second visit.
- Is it in stock, and what is the wait if not?
- Is the AED 99 inspection credited?
- What is the warranty on the part and the labour? Ours is 90 days.
- What if I decline? You pay the inspection and VAT.
- Is a cheaper fix possible? For an arm, cleaning may be enough. For a rack, ask whether one wheel is available.
A quote that cannot answer
A quote that cannot name the part has not finished diagnosing. A circulation pump replaced for a blocked arm, or an arm replaced for a weak pump, costs you twice.
What the sources leave open
Bosch's pages leave several things open, and we would rather say so than fill them.
- How to remove and fit a spray arm. Not on any page we read.
- Which parts are sold for which model. The spare parts search decides.
- How long arms and racks last. Not covered.
- What a rack costs. None of the pages gives a price.
- How to repair a wheel, roller or rail. The Bosch UK rack page does not say.
- How to remove existing rust. The Bosch UK rust page does not say.
If a repair site gives a confident answer to any of these, ask where it comes from.
Repair or replace the dishwasher
Our dishwasher page says a repair is worth it when the machine is under about ten years old and the repair costs less than half of a comparable new one. It also gives an example of when to think twice: if the door seal is already split and the racks are rusting, a control module repair is the first of several bills.
Racks change the sum
A rusting rack is a sign of age and use. One replacement rack is a small cost against a new dishwasher. Rust through the coating on every rack, plus a split seal and a noisy pump, adds up. Count the faults and not only the quote in front of you.
An arm is a small repair
Cleaning and replacing an arm come before any bigger repair, because the arm is the first part the water meets. We do not state a price for the part, because it varies by model and the Bosch pages give none.
What to tell us
- The E-Nr from the rating plate, as a photo.
- What you see: dirty dishes, an arm that will not turn, a rusting rack, a sliding fault.
- What you cleaned, and whether the arm now spins freely by hand.
- Whether the tablet dissolves.
- Photos of the damaged part, from two angles.
- Any code or lights on the display.
- What is in the lower rack when the problem appears: a tall pot, a tray, a pan.
- Access: integrated or freestanding.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Bosch dishwasher spray arm not spinning?
Bosch UK and Singapore say dirt and debris are by far the most common cause. Damage and a blocked path, such as a pan handle, are the others.
How do I clean the spray arms?
Bosch UAE and Egypt say to unscrew the upper arm, remove the lower arm, clear the nozzles with a cocktail stick, rinse and shake off the water, and refit both.
How do I replace a spray arm?
Bosch UK and Singapore say to order a replacement through the spare parts search or customer care. Neither gives fitting steps, so check your manual or book us.
Why are my dishes still dirty after cleaning the arms?
Bosch UAE lists other causes: an undissolved tablet, a clogged filter, improper loading, and a programme or detergent that is not strong enough for burnt-on food. If those are clear, the pump is next.
My rack is rusting. Can I replace it?
Yes. Bosch UK says sometimes the best way to deal with a rusty rack is to order a replacement. You buy it with your appliance information through its spare parts search.
Is rust on cutlery a fault?
Bosch UK says it is a natural reaction and does not mean the appliance is faulty. Rusting items in the load, salt and acid, and less resistant cutlery are the causes it names.
Can I buy replacement rack wheels?
Bosch UK says replacement rack wheels are sold in its online store. It gives no fitting guidance.
Can I fit a spray arm or rack myself?
Bosch Singapore advises against repairing it yourself if the problem persists. We do not recommend forcing parts. Order against your E-Nr and ask us if you are unsure.
How much does it cost in Dubai?
A not-cleaning repair is typically AED 180 to 460 before 5% VAT, with the AED 99 inspection credited if you approve. A rack, wheel or rail is quoted per part after we confirm it for your E-Nr.
Is it worth repairing?
Usually, if the machine is under about ten years old and the repair is under half the price of a new one. Several worn parts at once point towards replacing it.
Can I put a rusty rack through the wash with my cutlery?
Bosch UK says to keep rusting items out of the wash, because they can spread rust to cutlery. A damaged utensil basket should be replaced.
My dishwasher is under warranty. Should I still message you?
Contact Bosch first. We are an independent repair company and not an authorised Bosch agent, and a repair by us may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty terms.
Book a spray arm or rack check
