Bosch Washing Machine Drain Pump Replacement in Dubai
When a Bosch washing machine stops draining, the pump gets the blame, and most of the time that is unfair. The pump is usually just full of something: a coin, a hair grip, a sock that escaped the drum, a plug of lint. Clear it and the machine drains again, and you have spent ten minutes and nothing else.
Sometimes the pump really has failed. Then no amount of cleaning helps, and the pump has to be replaced. This page is about that second case: how to tell when you have reached it, why the replacement part depends on your exact model, who should fit it, and what it costs in Dubai.
We are an independent Bosch appliance repair company, not the manufacturer, and we are not an authorised Bosch agent. If your machine is inside Bosch's warranty, call Bosch first. The cleaning steps, the drain hose checks and the error code are covered elsewhere on this site, and we do not repeat them here. Start with our E18 guide if you have not cleaned the pump yet. For the wider list of washing machine faults, see our Bosch washing machine repair page.
At a glance
- Typical cost: a failed drain pump falls in our AED 220 to 320 range, excluding 5% VAT. Our washing machine page gives the whole drain family, cleaning included, as AED 150 to 320. The AED 99 inspection is credited to the repair if you go ahead.
- Typical time: 45 to 90 minutes on site, when the right pump is in the van.
- It is the pump only after the cheap checks fail. Pump clean, hose straight, siphon clear, and the machine still will not empty the drum.
- The part depends on the model. A pump that fits one Bosch front-loader can have a different mounting, connector or revision from the one next to it. Send us the E-Nr and FD numbers from the rating plate.
- What Bosch's pages do not say: none of the four Bosch pages we read mentions pump replacement or lists the symptoms of a failed pump. Where this page goes beyond them, it says so.
- Do not open the machine yourself. The pump runs on mains voltage and sits behind panels. Cleaning the pump through the service flap is a different, Bosch-described task.
Is it the drain pump? What Bosch says, and where its pages stop
We read Bosch's "washing machine does not drain" pages for the UAE, the UK, the US and Singapore. The UAE page is the one that applies to Dubai. The other three are regional, and we use them to see whether the advice differs. It does not differ in any way that matters.
What all four pages say
Every page gives the same two causes and the same two fixes.
The causes are a clogged pump and a kinked or blocked drain hose. The fixes are to clean the pump, then to check the hose and the siphon connection.
For the pump, the steps are the same wherever you read them. Close the tap, switch the machine off and unplug it. Open the service flap. Empty the water through the small drain hose or by slowly removing the pump cover. Clean the inside, the thread and the pump housing so that the impeller can rotate. Refit the cover firmly. Pour about 1 litre of water into the detergent drawer, check for leaks, and if the pump is watertight, start the pump or drain programme. The US page adds a warning, in its hose steps, that the water may be hot enough to scald.
Where the pages stop
After those two fixes, each page sends you to a person.
- Bosch UAE says to consult a service engineer, and lists BSH 048030400 elsewhere on the page.
- Bosch UK says to arrange a visit from a qualified Bosch engineer if the problem persists, and again if the hose fix fails after the pump has been cleaned.
- Bosch US gives a customer number and a servicer finder.
- Bosch Singapore says that if the problem persists you should not attempt repairs yourself, and gives its customer care hotline.
That is the end of Bosch's guidance. None of the four pages says that a pump can fail and be replaced. None describes what a failed pump sounds or looks like, and none of the four mentions noise. The pages end where the owner's part ends. We do not read the silence as a statement that pumps never fail.
The decision this page helps you make
The gap leaves owners with a real question. You have cleaned the pump and checked the hose. Is the machine now waiting for a new pump, or is something else wrong? The next section gives our reading of the evidence. It is not Bosch's, and it is drawn from the faults our technicians see, as set out on our E18 and washing machine pages.
Signs that point to the pump itself
We treat three findings as pointing to a failed pump, in this order of strength.
1. The impeller will not turn, or is cracked
Every Bosch page says the impeller must be able to turn freely. The impeller is the small fan inside the pump housing that pushes water towards the drain hose. After you have cleaned the housing, turn it gently with a finger, with the machine unplugged. If it moves freely, the housing is clear. If it is stiff, stuck or visibly cracked, something is still jammed behind it, or the pump has failed.
The Bosch UAE page does not say what to do with a stuck impeller. Our E18 guide reports that Bosch's UAE page says to contact Bosch customer service at that point. A cracked impeller is not something cleaning can put right.
2. The pump is silent when the machine tries to drain
The machine drains at the end of a wash. If the drum stays full, the display shows the drain fault, and you hear nothing from the bottom of the machine, then the pump may not be receiving power or may not be running. Our E18 guide gives this as a reason to do the cheap checks anyway and then book.
A silent pump has more than one possible cause. The pump motor may have failed, the wiring or connector to the pump may be faulty, or the control board may not be driving the pump. These are the three possibilities our E18 page lists after the cleaning checks. We cannot tell them apart from outside the machine, and neither can you. The technician tests the pump and its supply on site.
3. The pump hums or groans but the water does not move
Our E18 page says the same of a humming or grinding noise from the bottom of the machine: the pump is running and cannot move water, so something is jammed in it. This is the case where cleaning is most likely to fix the fault, so check the pump again before you assume replacement. If the housing is clear and the impeller turns freely and the hum continues, the pump is the leading suspect.
Signs that do not prove the pump has failed
- An E18 code on its own. The code is a drain timeout. Our E18 guide points out that it does not say where the water is stuck. It can be at the pump, in the hose or in the siphon.
- A slow drain. A partial blockage in the pump or hose gives a slow drain. Clean the pump and the hose before you suspect a part.
- A door that will not open with water in the drum. The machine locks the door by design while there is water in the drum. This is a consequence of the drain fault and not a separate problem.
What else can look like a pump failure
Four faults produce the same symptom, and a technician rules them out before quoting a pump.
- A blockage that returned. The pump is clean for a week, then a new object arrives. This is an owner's problem to solve, and we explain how in the last section.
- A kinked or blocked drain hose or a blocked siphon connection. Bosch lists both.
- Faulty wiring or a loose connector on the pump side. Our E18 page lists it, and the cost of a repair is in the table below.
- A control board that does not drive the pump. This is the rare and expensive case, and we say so before we quote it, after the pump and wiring have tested sound.
This is why the first step of a visit is a diagnosis and not a part. If the pump tests well, we tell you and quote for what is wrong. The inspection fee buys that answer.
Pump cover, filter, impeller: what the words mean on a Bosch
Search keywords for this part are inconsistent, and so are the listings. People write "drain pump filter", "pump cover", "pump filter", "front load washer drain pump filter". They do not all mean the same thing, and the difference matters when you order a part or describe a fault.
What Bosch's pages call each part
In the Bosch pages we read, the user-accessible parts are these.
- The service flap. A small panel at the front, low down. You open or remove it to reach the pump.
- The pump cover. The Bosch pages say to remove it "slowly" to drain the water, and to refit it firmly. It screws into the pump housing.
- The thread and the pump housing. You clean "the interior, the thread and the pump housing", in the words of the UAE and UK pages.
- The impeller. The wheel inside the housing, which "must be able to turn".
None of the four pages uses the word "filter" for any of these parts. Our reading is that owners call the pump cover the filter because debris collects there, but Bosch's wording is "pump cover". We use "pump filter" in this page only when we mean what an owner means by it.
Why "filter" matters when you order
A parts listing that says "drain pump with filter" is selling a pump and a lint filter together. The NWAR listing we read for part 00145347 says "fluff filter: yes" and "with case". Another listing title in our search results says "without filter", which we saw in a search result and did not open. The point for the buyer is simple: ask whether the filter and the cover are in the box, because a pump that comes without the part you need is not the part you need.
Cover, filter and pump are three different jobs
| Part | What it does | Who deals with it |
|---|---|---|
| Pump cover | Closes the housing | You, following Bosch's steps |
| Pump housing and thread | Holds the water on its way to the hose | You (cleaning only) |
| Impeller | Pushes the water out | You check it turns; a cracked one is a technician's job |
| Pump motor and its wiring | Drives the impeller | Technician only |
A leak at the cover is, according to our E18 guide, usually a loose cover or a dirty thread, which is a smaller job than a pump replacement. That guide also explains the leak test.
The part is model-specific
A drain pump is not a universal part. This is the section to read before you buy anything from anyone, including us. The evidence is from parts sellers, because Bosch's pages do not discuss part fitment, so we treat it as a strong pointer and not as a specification.
We read three seller pages on 2 November 2026. None is a UAE seller. We do not quote prices, which are in other currencies and do not describe Dubai.
Three listings, three different answers
Oz Appliance Spares, listing for part 00146083. The page says the pump fits twelve model codes: four WAK codes (WAK24160AU/03, WAK24161AU/03, WAK24162AU/03 and WAK24220AU/03) and eight WAN codes (WAN22120AU/04 to /08, and WAN2212XAU/01 to /03). It tells you to check the number on the rating sticker against the list, and offers to check a model that is not listed. It calls the part a "Genuine-fit drain pump" and describes the box as holding a "Bosch drain pump", but it does not say plainly whether the part is made by Bosch or made to fit. It gives a 12-month warranty. The page does not describe connector types, hose sizes or variants beyond the model list.
Ricambi, listing for BO111. The listing describes a magnetic-style electric pump for "some late-model front-loading washing machines", where the motor attaches to the cover by twisting on with three retaining lugs. It also says: "Mounting lugs are not all the same size or spaced evenly." It gives cross-references to pumps from other makers, and names a long list of brands the pump fits besides Bosch, including Siemens, Neff, AEG, Indesit, Whirlpool and Zanussi, and says "and others" may fit. The seller asks you to send the model number or the old part number before ordering, and says that electrical components should be installed by a qualified electrician.
NWAR, listing for part 00145347. This one is sold as a genuine part from BSH. It fits a short list of Bosch WKD codes and two Siemens codes. The listing carries the strongest warning of the three. It says the full model or E-Nr from the rating plate is required, "because visual comparison is unreliable and revisions can differ". It also says the part is ordered on request only and is non-returnable, and it points out that a cheaper compatible pump is available. The same listing names a Smeg pump as the same pump, made for Bosch and Siemens, and it contains an unexplained mismatch between two reference numbers. We do not resolve that mismatch, and we flag it so that you do not rely on the listing alone.
What the three listings tell you
- The model list is short. Twelve codes for one pump. Eighteen for another. A pump is matched to a set of model codes, not to a series or a capacity.
- Looking alike is not enough. NWAR says so outright, and Ricambi's note on the lugs suggests one way two pumps that look alike may not fit alike.
- Revisions exist. NWAR says revisions can differ. Bosch's pages do not define the FD number, and our reading is that it helps identify the individual machine, which is why it is worth sending too.
- The word "genuine" is not a guarantee. Oz Appliance Spares uses "genuine-fit", NWAR says genuine from BSH, and Ricambi lists cross-references to pumps from other makers. Ask any seller to say in writing who made the part.
- Some sellers will not take returns. One listing says the part is non-returnable. Read the terms before you pay.
How to order the right pump
Do not order a drain pump from a photo, from a series name or from a capacity. Do not trust a seller's "fits all Bosch" wording. Use the full E-Nr, and add the FD number if the seller asks.
Our model numbers guide explains what the letters and digits mean, where the E-Nr appears and what the market suffix tells you. Bosch Singapore asks for both numbers before service, and so do the parts sellers above. If your machine was imported or moved from another country, tell us, because the suffix and the parts list may differ from the one a Dubai retailer would sell.
Genuine or compatible: how we handle it
We do not claim that every part we fit is made by Bosch. What we promise is that the part number is on your invoice, so you can see what went into the machine. Where a genuine part and a compatible part are both available and the price differs, we tell you both and let you choose. We do not know how the two compare for a given model, and we say so before you decide.
DIY or technician: where the sources disagree
The sources do not agree on who should fit a drain pump, and the disagreement is worth showing.
- Bosch Singapore says that if the problem persists after the cleaning and hose checks, you should not attempt the repair yourself.
- Bosch UAE and Bosch UK send you to a service engineer.
- Oz Appliance Spares says that many owners fit the pump themselves, or that a local repairer can fit it. Its notes are to disconnect the power, note the orientation and wiring of the old pump, fit the new one in the same position, and test before reassembling.
- Ricambi says electrical components should be installed by a qualified electrician.
Our position
We recommend a technician, and the reasons are specific to this job and not to caution in general.
- The pump is a mains-voltage part. Two of the listings above rate their pumps at 230 V, and a pump sits where water and mains voltage meet.
- Reaching the pump means opening the machine. The service flap gives access to the pump cover, which is the cleaning step Bosch describes. We found no Bosch source for the way in to the pump itself, so we give no generic method, and a guess would be worse than silence.
- A wrong pump can look right until it leaks. The listings above show that mounting and revision can differ between pumps.
- Our warranty needs a record. A repair we carried out has a 90-day warranty. A part you fitted does not.
None of this means that owners who do their own work are being careless. It means the cheap, safe part of the job, cleaning, has already been tried, and the step that remains is the one Bosch itself hands to an engineer.
What a replacement visit involves
Bosch publishes no replacement procedure for the drain pump that we could find. The visit below is our own process, described in general terms and informed by the fitting notes in the Oz Appliance Spares listing. It is not a Bosch method and it is not an instruction for you to follow.
Before we come
We ask for the E-Nr and FD from your rating plate, what you have already tried and what the display showed. From these we work out the likely pump and tell you if we expect to order it. If the pump has to be ordered, the job may split into two visits: one to confirm the fault and one to fit.
We carry pumps for popular Bosch models, as our washing machine page says. We do not carry every pump. Where we do not hold yours, we tell you before we arrive.
Diagnosis first
The technician repeats the checks you did, on the machine itself: pump cover, housing, impeller, hose and siphon. Then comes the test that decides the job: does the pump receive power, and does it run when the machine asks it to drain? Wiring and connectors are checked at the same time. If the pump runs and moves water, we tell you the cause lies elsewhere and quote for that.
Fitting
With the plug out and the machine drained, the technician removes the old pump and compares it with the new one before fitting. The Oz Appliance Spares notes say to record the old pump's orientation and its wiring connections, and our practice is the same. The new pump goes in the same position, the connectors go back where they came from, and the hose and cover joints are refitted.
We do not describe the removal steps, because they differ by model and we have no Bosch source to quote.
Testing
The test follows Bosch's own after-cleaning test. About 1 litre of water goes in through the detergent drawer, the technician checks the pump and cover for leaks, and then runs the pump or drain programme. We add a longer watch of the first full drain, which is our own practice. The drum should empty, the display should stay clear and nothing should drip.
What you do
Clear the space in front of the machine and tell us if it is built in behind a cabinet door. Keep the laundry out of the drum. If the door is locked with water behind it, tell us. Our E18 guide explains the emergency release, and says when to use it and when not to.
What we will not do
We will not replace a pump that tests well. We will not fit a part we cannot name on the invoice. And we will not promise a time on site, because the model decides it. Our overview gives 45 to 90 minutes for a drain job, and that is the figure we use.
Cost: what a drain pump replacement costs in Dubai
All prices are in AED and exclude 5% VAT. They are our own pricing. We found no UAE retailer or service price for a Bosch drain pump to compare with, so we do not claim these match anyone else's.
| Outcome | What happens | Time | Range (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blockage in the pump or hose | Clear the blockage, clean, test the drain | 45 to 60 min | 150 – 220 |
| Failed drain pump | Replace the pump, test for leaks | 45 to 90 min | 220 – 320 |
| Damaged pump wiring or connector | Repair the wiring, test the pump | 60 to 90 min | 200 – 340 |
| Pump tests sound | No part; cause elsewhere, quoted separately | covered by inspection | 99 |
The first three rows come from our E18 guide, and the range on our washing machine page, AED 150 to 320, covers the pump family. The control module case is not in the table. We quote it only after the pump and wiring have tested sound.
A worked example
A Bosch front-loader stops draining. The owner has cleaned the pump and hose. The impeller turns freely, the drum stays full and the pump is silent. The technician finds the pump motor has failed. The part is in the van.
- All-in price: AED 270, including the AED 99 inspection.
- VAT at 5%: AED 13.50.
- Total: AED 283.50.
If the owner declines after the inspection, the cost is the AED 99 fee plus VAT of AED 4.95, which is AED 103.95. This example is an illustration of how the pieces add up and is not a quote.
What moves the price within the range
- The part. The model decides it, and we quote it before we order.
- Whether it is in stock. The price is the same either way, but a second visit costs you time.
- Access. A built-in machine behind a cabinet door takes longer to pull out, as our overview says.
- A second fault. A damaged connector or a control problem is quoted separately.
- Genuine or compatible, where both are on offer.
Repair the pump or replace the machine?
Our guideline, which is our reading and not a Bosch rule, is the one on our overview page: a repair is usually worth doing when the machine is under about ten years old and the repair costs less than half of a new equivalent. Drain pumps are among the routine, affordable repairs on that page, next to door seals and inlet valves. The decision changes when the pump is one of several problems: a noisy drum, a worn bearing, a leaking seal as well. In that case the next bill is close behind this one, and the machine's age decides.
If the machine has a leaking door seal as well, price both jobs together before you decide, because we can price both jobs together. Our Serie 4 guide gives dated Dubai retailer prices if you want to compare against a new machine.
After the replacement: stopping a repeat
Most drain faults begin in the laundry basket. A new pump fails for the same reasons an old one jams.
- Close hooks and zips, and use a mesh bag for small items. Our E18 guide gives this advice, and it applies to socks, baby clothes and bra wires, which travel into the pump housing.
- Check pockets before the wash. Coins and hair grips are on the list of usual culprits on our washing machine page.
- Clean the pump cover on a schedule. Your manual gives the interval for your model. We do not quote one, because the Bosch pages we read do not give a single figure.
- Mind the hose. Keep the drain hose routed without kinks and fitted to the siphon the way the manual shows.
- Watch the first drain after any visit. If water appears under the machine, tighten the pump cover and tell us.
What to tell us when you book
You will get a faster, cheaper visit with these. Together they take a few minutes.
- The E-Nr and FD numbers from the rating plate, as a photo.
- The code on the display, if any, and when it appeared: filling, washing, draining or spinning.
- What you hear from the bottom of the machine when it tries to drain: silence, humming, grinding or rattling.
- What you have tried, and what you found in the pump cover.
- Whether the drum still holds water, and whether the door is locked.
- Age and history: how old the machine is and whether the pump has been replaced before.
- Access: your building, apartment number and parking, and any approval your building needs. For a built-in machine, say whether the panel hides the controls.
A short video of the machine trying to drain, with sound, helps us decide what to bring. Send it by WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my Bosch washing machine drain pump has failed?
Clean the pump cover and housing first, and check the impeller turns freely. If the hose and siphon are clear and the drum still will not empty, the pump is the leading suspect. A silent pump, a stuck or cracked impeller, or a hum with no water movement all point that way. Bosch's pages do not list these signs, so this is our reading.
How much does a Bosch washing machine drain pump replacement cost in Dubai?
Our range for a failed pump is AED 220 to 320, excluding 5% VAT, typically in 45 to 90 minutes. The AED 99 inspection is credited to the repair if you go ahead. The model and the part decide where you fall.
Is the drain pump filter the same as the pump cover?
In Bosch's pages the part you open is called the pump cover, and the pages do not use the word filter. Owners call it the filter because it catches debris. When you order a part, ask whether a filter and cover are included.
Can I replace a Bosch drain pump myself?
Bosch Singapore says not to attempt repairs yourself if the problem persists after cleaning, and Bosch UAE and UK send you to an engineer. One parts seller says many owners fit it themselves, and another says electrical parts need a qualified installer. We recommend a technician.
Is the drain pump the same on every Bosch washing machine?
No. The seller listings we read tie each pump to a short list of model codes, and one says visual comparison is unreliable and revisions can differ. Send the full E-Nr, and the FD number if asked.
Should I buy a genuine or a compatible pump?
We found no Bosch comparison. One seller we read says a cheaper compatible pump exists for the same model. Ask the seller who made the part, check the return terms, and have the part number put on your invoice.
Will the pump be replaced on the first visit?
If we hold the pump for your model, yes. If not, we confirm the fault on the first visit and fit on the second. Send the E-Nr beforehand and we check stock.
The pump is new but the machine still will not drain. Why?
The cause may lie elsewhere: a blocked hose or siphon, a wiring fault, or the control board. Tell us straight away. Our workmanship warranty applies to the repair.
My machine is under warranty. Should I still message you?
Contact Bosch first. Bosch UAE lists BSH 048030400. We are an independent repair company and not an authorised Bosch agent, and a repair by us may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty terms.
